Hi.
I'll be picking up a e91 330d on the weekend. The first thing I do after purchasing a car is a full service.
The N57 engine is currently on 93k. I know that I'm looking for BMW LL04 oil. But at this millage is it worth going for a 5w40 over the 5w30? Any pro or major cons in either.
I run a weight higher in my 114k 3.0 legacy for the same reason and that uses zero oil between services. My rationale is the engine will be worn in by now and tolerances within the engine greater than leaving the factory. The slightly thicker 5w40 oil would minimise oil consumption and increase protection on the engine.

Or am I over thinking this and stick with 5w30?

Stick with 5W30

That's what I ran in my F01 730D with the N57 and it had 86k'ish miles on it IIRC

I went for Liqui Moly 5W30 and added their Ceratec and it ran smooth and quiter thumbup

Use either. It won’t make a lot of difference.

Thanks. Went with 5w30 in the end.
Last question as I don’t have the car in front of me. What size socket does the oil filter housing need.
