More work on my M2 Comp
Discussion

My M2 Comp has just had it's 3rd birthday so I thought I'd do a little bit more to it. BMW specialist, Paddock Motors, near Exeter, have done a fantastic job in fitting a new Forge Motorsport charge cooler, Eventuri charge pipes and a stage 1 Quantum remap. Whilst they were taking it to pieces I got them to fit a crank hub capture plate.....just in case.
I'm enjoying this car more every day. Barring unforeseen issues, it's a keeper.
I've booked a session on a local rolling road/dyno for mid-August just to discover what the numbers are. I'd already had a Remus cat back exhaust fitted [resonator deleted], 10mm lower springs and BBS wheels to complete the stance, a few carbon trim pieces and now this work. The drive back from Exeter was dogged by holiday traffic, plod and cameras so no real opportunity for any real push but it feels a lot "looser"....as if the it has been released from its bonds put on it by BMW in the detune to assuage the M3/M4 buyers who paid loads more for the same engine. I won't be tracking it. I'd rather pay to use someone else's machinery [Dr Palmer - Bedford Autodrome??] and not risk my own equipment and the long drive home.

Ill be tracking mine though,
lovely stuff, mines making around 530/560 with a stage 1+ (opf removal) on ECUTEK
Any reason you didnt go for the full crank hub fix? A stage 1 m2c came into garage whilst I was there with a spun hub and bolt capture fitted, capture plate didnt stop the timing being thrown and expensive bill
Cooler looks great btw

Paddock Motors who have worked on the car from the first suggested that for ordinary road use [this car won't be tracked] and given that it is also a manual gearbox then the engine forces that normally result in the failure are extremely unlikely to be seen on this motor. They were in not doubt that were it to become a track tool the full fix would be essential

Mines running 560bhp crank hub fix not full, no issues at all. Any reason you didnt go for the full crank hub fix? A stage 1 m2c came into garage whilst I was there with a spun hub and bolt capture fitted, capture plate didnt stop the timing being thrown and expensive bill

I can’t help but think the issue might of been slightly over hyped to sell £2000.00 fixes, Maybe I’ll eat my words one day but it doesn’t even cross my mind. Mines just clocked 31k for reference.

PS - its worth looking at the US thread here too, thankfully no issue is more common however the rate of failures is alarming on modified DCT models! standard power seems pretty reliable thankfully.

Totally agree; why go to those that know so much more than us for an opinion and then ignore it......the cost of the work is not insignificant yet the risk of failure is very low. Unlike HMG & its response to the virus, I've done a cost benefit analysis and have taken the view that there's no point paying for the full fix
