hi, the other day I went to lock the car with the key fob, it would not lock. I got home and locked it with the knob button. Now it will not unlock, you can unlock it with the knob, mechanically, but you press the mirror button and it makes a buzzing noise but will not unlock, I can not unlocl it with the key fob.
I have shorted out the door switches to no avail. Any clues please.
Cheers
Pete

First the door locking/unlocking is a different electrical system to the door opening using the mirror buttons. If the door is locked then mechanically the open buttons cannot work and will buzz.
It sounds as though you have either an alarm issue or locking module issue.
Your first task should be the 'turn it off and back on again' by simply disconnecting the battery for a minute or so.
Ask someone like me for a circuit diagram with which you can start testing.

Cheers Steve,
I will do the battery disconnect and let you know, even a simple task like disconnect the battery mean taking the car out of the garage, doing a few stretches, and ten diving into that footwell.
Thanks
Pete

Next job - move your battery to somewhere more accessible

Hi Steve, I have disconnected the battery for ten minutes reconnected and still the same. I have noticed that the green light on the opening knob is on when the ignition is on, is this just telling me that it is locked?
Where would you suggest next?
Cheers
Pete

I don't know which system you have, but if it's the car in your profile and it still has the original Meta system, I have sometimes found that if a remote unit appears to have gone 'out-of-sync', and assuming the remote's batteries are okay, simply holding it near the car (held mine by windscreen/dashtop) and holding the 'lock' button down for an extended period, about 3-5 secs from memory, can reset it.

I can't say it will work with all cars but it's worked for me.

Yes light in knob tells you it is locked.
Looks to me like you will need to get the dash top of and do some testing. Is this sort of thing in your skill set?
If yes send me a PM and I will send you a circuit diagram. with that in hand I can take you through some tests.
In the mean time please make sure the battery is fully charged and in good condition as this could be the issue.

Never dismiss the battery as the cause of your electrical issues.
In my experience, which is about one quarter of 1% of Steve's, at least 50% of TVR electrical problems I have seen are related to old or undercharged batteries.
