What am I hearing?

From my garden I keep hearing the same noise. All times of day every day.

To me, being a car type, it sounds like that initial deep suction noise when the throttle is opened on a car with a crap cone filter. Maybe a half second burp, three or four times then it stops.

Confirmed that others can hear it and I'm not insane.

Any suggestions?

Flicking from drive to neutral on a DSG box whilst pressing throttle around 10% consistently across that shift will make a brrrrumph sort of noise for a few seconds before it revs up. Could be that?

Unless it's someone who hasn't moved for months (years) and enjoys flicking their box (oo er) I don't think it's that.

I'm in a fairly built up area and the noise is always from the same direction.

Aliens is a possibility
