We almost got a pine marten once. It was stood in the middle of the road round a blind bend, but bugger me it could run fast!

Hit an owl once in a BMW 7 series - it was just standing in the middle of the road when I came round a bend one night - only saw it at the last minute and 4-up doing a fair lick, he had no chance.

A mate of mine climbed over a fence one evening after a few beers, fell off the top and landed on a badger the other side - that was funny!

I gues not that weird but....I hit a badger on the motorway in my old golf gti 16v.

i was doing about 80 at the time - my god they are big!

It ripped the bumper skirt off, launched half the car into the air, and left traces of blood and fur on the front and all up the underside of the car... yuck

I got a badger once, those guys are 'ard! I was in my old Mr2 and I had to spend the next 2 weeks rebuilding the front end. Probably a good thing as the structural lightening (rust) was well underway!

Hit a f**king huge crow once in my old BMW coupe - it knocked the air cooling duct for the front brake straight out of the front spoiler - Mr Crow was very dead with a broken neck amongst other things.

In the Elise I hit a fox that had alrady been knocked down a couple of minutes before, broadside, the car almost took off and covered the door and rear wheel arch with blood

Not a direct hit but was following a mate in his car when he took out flopsy bunny... with his outside rear wheel! The stupid thing ran out, stopped, he swerved to avoid it, then it pegged it straight into a Michelin.

Only went over it's front half tho - the back was still twitching as I swerved to avoid it.

Grim.

Been in a couple of cars, one stationary and one doing 30-ish and had pigeons fly into the side of them - leaves a real comedy bird wing imprint, they must be full of dust!

Also hit a fox in a 306, left a fox shaped hole in the front valence and hit the exhaust as it bounced under the car. The fox somehow got up and walked away!

Living out in the country and using the nice b-roads to get to and from work I've hit quite a lot of stuff over the years.

My targets....errr I mean victims include: Many Pheasants rabbits and even the odd squirrel (to be honest I try my hardest not to hit any squirrels, I think it might have something to do with the Old Carling Black Label advert!

In Fact I've got a funny story about when I hit a grouse, I was burning down the lane about a mile away from my house and I saw a baby grouse in the road. So I did what I thought at the time was a good Idea. Blasted my horn to try and get it out the way.

Next thing I know about 10 of them appeared from no where and went absolutely bonkers In a stupid state of confusion some of them flew up towards my car while the others just ran out in the road. It was like a scene out of the Texas chain saw massacre! Feathers and blood everywhere, and more importantly a smashed grill and big dent in the bonnet

Moral of the story don't use your horn, you never know what’s in the hedges

When I worked in a BMW dealership, one of my customers called me to say he had just hit a deer - my reaction "oh dear".... I couldn't help it - it just slipped out

Narrowly missed a pheasant whilst competing in a hillclimb in a single seater - a known problem at some venues and if you chose to slow or avoid them, you don't get another run... tough choice. I kept my foot in and luckily got away with it.

A few years back I came across a sea of rabbits running out of a field. At 60 mph, I left 2 tyre tracks running through them

Earlier in the year I was picking family up from a function at Skipton Golf Club late at night. Got there too early and thought it would be a good idea to drive towards Bolton Abbey (Too refresh my memory of the way to the Cars in the Park meet)

Was in a S-class merc 320cdi and on the 2nd corner away from the golf club, a rabbit ran out and underneath the car. Could feel it being run over at the time.

Poor little bugger.

Good thing there are no porcupines in the UK.

A few chickens on a mates farm - they just rolled and rolled in the wheel arch... Maybe it's the liquid lunch but I can't help but smile at the mental picture; though at the time I remeber it being very traumatising, for me - the chickens just ran off

Also hit a badger a while back, split a bit of my bumper and mangled the manifold I was picking bits of fur off for months after.

Hit a frigging great big stag 3 years ago - this was in the short period that I went without a Lotus. Bloody great big thing ran out right in front of my 328 Convertible (BMW), landed on the bonnet and its left antler pierced the top of the windscreen at 50 mph, before getting up & running off. Lost an antler and it died in a friends garden later that day.
And yes I did have the roof down. This was probably the only time I was truly glad not to be in a Lotus.

Had a close shave with a heron standing in a road once. Early on a dull grey morning it was next to invisible seen against a road surface almost identical to the colour of its feathers. It didn't move other than to look down at me I went past - it wasn;t the first and it won't be the last to do that!
