Griff 500 vs Tuscan
Discussion
hi guys,
i'm sure this has been talked about on numerous occasions but need some newbie advice.
What are the pros/cons about each of the above? In particular:
1. reliability (engine as well as build quality)
2. cost of running
3. Handerling/road holding (essential)
thanks guys for your anticipated help

Hi
Well I think most people would agree on the first two answers. The Griff has been in production way longer with a very proven engine/transmission configuration and is certain to be more reliable than the Tuscan. Because of this there are far more servicing options available (i.e specialists) and parts easier to come by so I would estimate the running costs to be anywhere up to 50% less.
As for handling, I think with similarly priced cars the the quality of geometry setup and the condition of the suspension units makes a larger difference than the model. A well setup griff on new nitrons will run circles around all but the best preapared Tuscans. However the majority of Tuscans have newer parts on them so I would guess on average they would be better than the older Griffs. As with all aspects of TVR buying "condition is king".
Either way, s'all good.

I tried both before buying the Tuscan IMO...
1. Reliability: The griff wins hands down unless you buy a brand new tuscan (or one with a cast iron warranty)
2. Cost of running: The griff shaves it here as well (though not by that much according to my sums)
3. Performance: In two equally set up cars (Nitrons/geometry etc) the Tuscan will outperform the griff (though once again not by much).
With me it came down to a decision of the heart not the head, which is what buying a sports car is all about after all...

Drive a 'SORTED' one of each...
And you would probably
want both...
If can't choose between them on 'PURE' economic grounds, choose the griff, generally on average cheaper to run/service, good cars bought on condition, depreciation taken biggest hit, if you ignore last 100 editions..
qand I would say real world roads, vs track agruable as quick. ie griff has immediate toreu in gear, whereas the tusc you need to get it above 4500 revs, ie change down...
Then again some would prefer the tusc, for it high revving atributes.

To compare a chim 450 (nearly a griff 500) with a Tuscan, ... Driving in the recently aquired tuscan 3.6 with my significantly better 1/2 (she can spell). I asked what speed she thought we were doing, about 90 was nics guess! Wrong 115.. Now in the chim i would have received a bolloking long before reaching that speed.. that should answer 1 question.
Drive somewere and park tuscan next to a Griff, no offense but aint no one gonna look at the griff(tho same could be said for almost any other car)
Plant the fast pedal, its a different sort of fast, the engine needs to rev, but the woaahhhh effect goes on to a higher level. Faster? YEP..
Listen to the motor , Tuscan has a lovely throaty exhaust but the engine sounds like a bag of spanners being rolled down a hill.. The v8, well , music at both ends, one point back.
Running costs? I owned chim for 5 yrs , annual service £150 (local specialist) Its all rover and ford, it doesnt need Tvr servicing and cost. Now the tuscan, well thats another matter £££££. 2-3 to tuscan
For cheap super car thrills Griff/Chim every time.
For potentialy not so cheap super car thrills in a gorgeous body.. I have taken the risk.. Tuscan
