I ask because it's for sale with Justin Banks, and the record briefcase has a PistonHeads sticker on it!
I'm trying to find out a bit more info than the MOT checker! The dealer openly admits to having little mechanical knowledge, and nor do I in many ways, so I thought I'd ask. The obvious questions around chassis, outriggers and engine rebuild/cam shaft etc apply.

The problem you have is often these cars went onto a private plate number so not many will remember specific standard number plates.

Forgive my ignorance but who is Justin Banks and if he’s a dealer….. I bet he has little mechanical knowledge. That’s as old as the hills in my book. That’s like going to a chemist to find he’s actually a butcher?

If between you and this so called dealer you both have no knowledge which in your case is quite normal in reality go find someone who does know these cars to look.
There is a chap who will travel and offer this service but I can’t remember his name.
Someone will hopefully post details.
In your briefcase of notes does it mention outrigger replacement, if not assume they are rotten and will require at least 2k to put right and that’s only doing it by half a job!
You have been warned wink

Description on the dealer site has enough detail to suggest he knows what he’s doing to some extent at least.

Seems a good description for further checks maybe:

"This is the Serpentine 4.0 litre version, is in remarkable condition and has Power Assisted Steering fitted. This car was an ex-Hexham Horseless Carriages demonstrator and then the personal car of the Yorkshire TVRCC chairman. The paint and exterior are in excellent condition as is the interior despite some very light wear to the leather seats."

All good points, thank you!
I spoke with Matt from Justin Banks Ltd, who openly confessed to not having a mechanical knowledge in general, mostly to avoid misinforming me, which I think is fair. It was more to do with having a deeper knowledge of what bits have been, or therefore need to be done on this car.

In the end, I have settle don a different car that has had the main bits done properly - body-off chassis refurbishment/powder coating, outrigger replacement, camshaft/timing chain etc replacement, and top to toe overhaul. No questions to ask on the construct and mechanical integrity which madfe me a lot more certain.

Thanks again all
