I have recently bought a lotus elise and have noticed a knocking noise from the front left of the car.

Does anyone have any ideas what this might be?

Thanks

What is the knock like ? For example the classic sign of the crappy S1 suspension is simalar to snooker balls hiting each other

Hi Stuart,

I would say if anything, the noise is like that of snooker balls hitting together. The noise only prevails when on a poorly surfaced bouncey road.

If the road is flat then there is no noise

Sorry, I have to disagree. S1's sounding like a snooker table - TADTS

Go and speak to you nearest specialist / lotus garage for a proper opinion based on fact rather than us hypothisising. If they do condem them, consider getting them replaced with the S2 kit. There is a chap on SELOC that will be able to sort it out for around £600

Did you ever get to the bottom of this problem? I sometimes hear a slight knock (tick) on my 111s, but it comes and goes, seems to go when the brakes get warm. (feels like the drivers front)

I first noticed it through the brake pedal, you can feel the knock (tick) as the wheel rotates at low speed. It's as if something is catching the caliper, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Anyway I'm going to jack the front up and take a look. There's nothing obvious - any ideas?

OK - I've found out the issue, the brake hose was rubbing on the front wheel and catching a balancing weight on the way around - now fixed - problem solved.
