It appears to be a while since there’s been a Pink Floyd thread.

When The Wall was released my late Father bought me a copy on vinyl which I still have and love listening to. A lot again of late. Probably my favourite album followed by Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here, then Animals. But I can’t choose! . My kids don’t mind listening either which is nice.
I’m 50 this week, along with an amount of their music, and still love them and still on my list of (tribute or other) bands to see live.
So since the linked thread is now 16 years old I wondered if anyone is still or has grown to appreciate them? What’s your go to album?

Enjoyed their albums for many a year - well,since a mate bought Dark Side of the Moon when it first came out.
Never seen them live although seen a pretty amazing tribute band - missed the Australian band when they came to my town sadly.
Favourite is Wish you were here followed by DSOTM.

I was at the infamous 1977 concert in Montreal...in the Olympic Stadium. We brought a blanket and lined up early to get a space facing the stage at ground level. Absolutely amazing concert , that. The floated huge inflatable pigs down from the top of the stadium.

I’ve just listened to Meddle. Shouldn’t overlook that one from opening track to lounge jazz, me forgetting no dogs living here at the moment and still getting up to let one in! To one of my Halloween playlist tracks that drives the cats insane. I think I default to The Wall because it reminds me of being a kid and is a treasured gift from my late Father.
I once borrowed my neighbours entire Pink Floyd CD collection to copy (this was twenty odd years back) I need to dig the discs out for on the move times

Listened to some Pink Floyd this weekend on the way down to Nick Mason’s house for his annual open day. Fearless is my current favourite, covered on the Saucerful of secrets tour he is currently doing. I’ve put some photos on the South West forum thread for those interested!

Shine On........is one of my favourite tunes of all time, as is Wish You Were Here and Comfortably Numb all of which I have learned on guitar as a rite of passage.
However.
DSOM is a copper-bottomed masterpiece for me. Everything, from the lyrics to the chords to the guitar work to the song writing is just first class. Even the opening chords to Breathe are majestic. Gilmour could have played a simple E minor > A major, but for an extra bit of "spice" he used an E minor add9 chord. Simple. Effective.
Rick Wrights The Great Gig In The Sky, before the "chorus" goes through a progression that uses 12 chords to get from a starting point of B minor to end at B flat major! Complicated. Effective. Beautiful.
However.

Animals has always been my favourite - remember listening to it on the family philips cassette stereo when i was about 5 or 6 and listening to the guitar solos over and over again and even then recall knowing i needed to learn how to make these incredible noises. Dark side is a close second with wish you were here third (prefer welcome to the machine over wywh, maybe I just like minor sounding slightly more sounding sinister music) Was fortunate to see them play at London Docklands in 1989 on the delicate sound of thunder tour

The Delicate Sound Of Thunder tour was my first ever rock concert, but I'd been "in to them" for some time before, my best friend got me really in to them in the mid-eighties but I'd obviously been aware for much longer. We both went to the Division Bell tour in Earls Court too.
It would be difficult to really choose a favourite album - the Dark Side/Wish You Were Here/Animals/Wall sequence is something that simply never gets old for me. I also really like The Final Cut. The last, post Waters, two or three are simply "good" and get listened to less often.
I've seen Roger Waters live, I think, four times, and absolutely love Radio Kaos and Amused To Death. The last time I saw him was in Cologne a couple of years ago, he played Animals all the way through which was fantastic.
