Why does my favourite tipple vary so much from pub to pub?
My local rough and ready pub serves Stella like nectar of the gods, ice cold, loads of bubbles and what a taste. In contrast the trendy bar near where I work serves Stella like Satans own p**s.
Now the trndy bar sells a lot of Stella and cleans the pipes regularly. In fairness even they admit it isn't up to scratch but don't know why.
I have a theory, could it have anything to do with the length of the pipe from tap to barrel? If there is a very long run then surely you will be getting one from in the pipe each time, rather than a short run which will provide a fresher pint.
Any other theories or actual reason for the difference? And yes the pipes are cleaned and flushed very thoroughly, so no chemical residue.

t is satan's own p*ss no matter how well kept it is IMHO
If the line from the barrel/cooler is long it is likely to affect the taste as not only will it warm up sitting there it will deposit residues.
If the lines are not particularly new it won't matter how thoroughly they are cleaned there will always be some crap stuck to them that will ruin your pint.

I find that I can drink bottled stella

until the sun comes up the following morning and the following day im feeling fine ( a touch embarassed possible 
)...however if i drink draft 5-6 pints makes me feel like sh1t
the following day... I've also leant to check where the bottled and canned stuff is brewed.. the uk stuff is nasty..
we even did a blind taste test the other day and everyone identified which was which,

It's all to do with the way it is kept, and the mixture of gas etc at the pump (well, dispenser). If it's tasting like Satan's piss then they've got the mixture wrong - plan and simple.

There's your answer. If you insist on drinking carbonated rat pizzle ensure the bar gets the gas pressure right. Says a lot about cooking lager when the most important elements is CO2
Belguim work mate of mine says they treat stella the same way we treat Skol.....
