Is an Audi TT RS a good sports car?

I considered a 992 Carrera and was seriously considering placing a deposit, when I found the waiting time is long and indeterminate.
Used ones are more expensive than new, if less than 2 years old, one of those looks like a bad idea.

So what else?

Audi TT RS is more powerful, just as fast in rea life, more refined, more practical and ~50% of the price.
I'm not seeking to impress anyone, as I don't know anyone who would even care.

So is it a good choice?

These cars are in totally different leagues.
The TT will feel bland in comparison

This. Whilst the RS model has a cracking engine, the TT is built on the VW MQB (Golf) platform, with front-biased AWD...and you can't escape that when you drive it.

TTRS is a very decent car and for a normal driver and will be very enjoyable to drive.

Standard Carrera isn't going to be the most exciting car either, but will be a nicer steer.

Not sure I would say the TT will be more refined, suspension is quite firm on them.

I didn't really like the power delivery of the TTRS, seemed to have a little lag but sound nice. Interior is nice but visibility is poor and those wing mirrors are horrific.

I had an early MK3 TTRS and the gearbox was rubbish, spoilt the car.

If it'd had a manual box I'd probably still have it, just for epic noise it made.

Audi dealers also spoilt the experience, never again.

Shame, as at the time it was supposed to be my last ever new car to myself.

This is a simple one go & test drive a Lotus Evora it's a proper sports car that will show a Carrera a thing or two when it comes to the chassis & the engine is a peach too.

The TT RS is a very good & capable car but it's not a sportscar in comparison to the two cars above, amother cracking alternative is the Alpine A110.

Sounds like you must have driven both to form those opinions. Otherwise sounds like a plant from Audi marketing dept!

I can't give you a direct comparison as I've not driven the TT RS, but I have driven the TTS. I've also driven lots of Pork over the last 25+ years.

One is a pure sports car, designed that way from the ground up. The 992 generation isn't as raw as those up to the 997, but is still unmistakeably a sports car in terms of chassis, handling, and the way it drives. My personal preference would be for a well-maintained 997 C2S or GTS, but I've got nothing against the 992.

The other one is basically a Golf in drag, and the TTS that I drove certainly felt like it. Safe, planted, good road holding, but really quite dull to drive. I don't think more power is going to change the fundamentals of the chassis and handling. The five-cylinder will sound good, but you're not going to get too many chances to use all of the available power.

I think to be fair the OP could have read some reviews that stated that the Audi was all those things as well and hasn't driven it?

I think a TTRs would be a great every day performance car. Its easy to deride these as fast golfs in a posh frock, but for everyday usable performance in any conditions, really hard to beat.
