I'm now at the "I need help" stage.

105 7000 front mech, 2 years old and it's been sticky since i first had it but when it's been in LBS (warranty) they can't replicate it.

In the stand i can move it freely up and down without issue. When I'm out cycling at times (40%) it gets stuck in the big ring and i have to unclip and knock it with my heel to get it to drop to the sissy. needless to say it's been thoroughly cleaned and still happens.

The one thing i can't check is the cable as when it's on the stand i can see the cable moving, however on the bike clearly i can't see if it's loose when i drop it down.

fire away please

I'd start with a new cable, in my experience, they cure most problems.

No suspension on the bike I assume? Just wondering if it could be something binding once sag occurs if it does have suspension.

If you replace the cable be sure to do the housing at the same time. Failing all that do you have anyone you can borrow a 105 front mech from just to rule out a manufacturing fault?

Two things, firstly cable as suggested above but secondly, also check the lever itself and make sure the hood is correctly seated on it. The lever has a return mechanism which, if obstructed by the hood, can prevent the mechanism operating and releasing the tension in the cable, thus leaving you on the 'big plate'.;)

A few drops of lube down the inner gear casing will loosen a binding cable..... Happened a few times on bikes which have been stood a little while.....

thanks. I can feel the "clunk" as the lever releases the tension so it's not the lever. ordered a new cable as that's easier than swapping mechs, will see
