Hi all and thanks in advance for any help.
My sons first year of motoring is just coming to an end so the insurance is up for renewal.
He had an accident 6 days after passing his test 🤦🏻‍♂️ but has been fine with no issues since, my question is if he waits 6 days after his policy finishes to renew with a different company will that then class as a year with no claims being as it has been 12 full months?

No. I think you need a year of insurance COVER without a claim to qualify for one year’s NCB.
He’s got a year of insurance WITH a claim and 6 days of no insurance.

Thanks for your help, I did think that would be the case, I was just hoping more than anything that it wasn’t.

There's a 14 day cooling off period so if it auto-renews then it may be possible to phone the insurance company six days in and ask for a better deal as it will then be 1 years NCB?

That was my hoping rather than thinking as it would be so much cheaper obviously

If going to another insurer he'd need evidence from the previous insurer of the year's NCB which he won't have.
I can't see the existing insurer giving any discount by trying to delay or redo the renewal.

Thank you, I am pretty much of the same opinion, just asked the question as who knows with insurers sometimes

Where would the 1 yr NCB come from?

Nowhere, because he won't have any.

In order to get a year's ncb, he's got to go a whole policy year without a claim. So he'll have a year's ncb in August 2023 if he's claim free from renewal onwards. Not before.
