Brake replacement/upgrade

OK, so my front disks and pads need replacing. Generally speaking, I have tended to replace like for like e.g. staying with original TVR spec parts.

However, looking at various web sites, I can get:

Standard front disk @ £50.41 x 2 = £100.82
Standard front pads @ £45.83 = £ 45.83
P&P @ £4.11 = £ 4.11
TOTAL = £150.76

OR

Black Diamond Combi disks (pair) = £119.04
Black Diamond Predator pads = £ 34.90
P&P @ £0 = £ 0.00
15% discount = £-23.09
TOTAL = £130.85

This stikes me as being a no-brainer...

Comments please? And what can I spend my extra £20 on?!?

(it seems that £46.53 will buy you some Goodridge Stainless steel brake houses)...

I've just got Black Diamond Discs and Pads for mine and fitted them myself, so no great words of wisdom about extra braking power or anything yet. Can help with problems you are likely to encounter though. I have the spanner rash to prove it.

I'd soend the £20 on a few beers and a hot curry!

Thanks - have ordered the parts, and will give you a shout when they arrive!

After spending a few hours on the internet, it seems that you can save a whole pile of money on parts, tyres etc if you can be bothered to spend the time doing the research... pair of Toyos for £150, delivered to the fitter!

Good morning!
I would be interested if youcould both let me know how you find the black diamond upgrades as this is a way I was looking at going. Would like to know how easy they are to fit, feel, performance gains etc.

The major problem I had with fitting was the calliper bolts were loctited in, as they should be, but they are removed with an 8mm allen key.

As you can imagine there was no leverage, so used the old ring spanner trick, when it finally gave my hand slipped and hey presto, big gouge!

The other thing to be aware of is that the spacers on the calliper mounting bracket may need moving, or removing, to allow for clearance between the new disc and the calliper.

Got my discs and pads from Proven Products, very quick turn around.

The front caliper spacers will need moving to the outside of the caliper rather than between the caliper and piston as per standard TVR discs.
I fitted their 12 groove discs and predator pads front and rear earlier this year and they are very good.
One word of advise, I notice you have a 98 Chim with the 260mm front discs. Please make sure the people you've ordered off have the correct pads listed in their catalogue. There was an error with the B/Diamond fitting chart that led to front pads being listed the same for all model chims and griffs - for the 240mm discs.
Check the cost breakdown in my profile for the correct part numbers!!
