Expat car insurance
Discussion
Hi,
I am moving to Singapore for a few years with work and am putting my '88 911 into professional storage; I am unlikely to drive the car much on my visits to the UK.
Does anyone know of a reputable, sensibly priced insurance company? I've tried a few:
- Many won't insure because I'm a non-UK resident
- Adrian Flux won't insure because it's valued over £50k and doesn't have a tracker (but does have a Thatcham approved alarm/immobiliser)
- I am waiting on a call back from Keith Michaels
Any other suggestions?

My experience on this topic (£20k insured car) -
>> Stuart Collins wouldn't insure me, even with a UK correspondence address (they told me they no longer offer this risk)
>> Mannings, they struggled to get a price, the final price was 2.5X the cost to insure the car as a UK resident
>> Keith Michaels - good service as always, was 1.5X the cost to insure the car as a UK resident (UK correspondence address required)
>> Hagerty - the most helpful of the ones I called, 1.5X the cost to insure the car as a UK resident but discounted for laid up cover (and allow miles to be added on if you're back in the UK). (UK correspondence address required)
Hagerty offered me an agreed value on the car (so no quibbling in the case of a claim) and RAC breakdown cover if I buy miles to drive the car and take it off laid up cover. Hagerty also cover the car whilst on a transporter (if you are moving between storage units etc).
One thing worth mentioning is, that laid up cover only covers the car not moving under its own power, if your storage facility run the car up to temperature etc - their laid up cover won't work for you.
This is all as at February 2023 based on my experience.
