As above - show us sights that would put most sane PH'ers (probable oxymoron) off living there. They say a picture can speak a thousand words - let those pictures really speak!!

OK - I'll bite.

Caveat - I live in "The Happiest Place on Earth" - Orlando FL. There are some exceedingly swanky and incredibly skanky neighborhoods here - focus is on the latter.

First up is Jernigan Gardens Apartments complex, Mercy Drive, Orlando. Located deep in the heart of the hood, this is a genuine war-zone, modeled on the WW2 Concentration Camp design influence. It is so awful, it even has it's own police station.

Next we have picturesque Bithlo, known locally as "The Nightmare before Christmas", due to it's location between Orlando and Christmas FL. Even poor white trash don't live here anymore. Groceries are traded with food-stamps and meth. Pit Bull mixes and goats abound, as do neck tattoos, mullets and old Camaros.

Finally, we have the jewel in the crown - Tymber Skan Condominiums. This area is SO off the scale dangerous that the cops don't dare go in there anymore. Needless to say, no Google street-view, as they would not have come out alive. The city turned the power off a couple of years ago, but the residents who have yet to burn their homes to the ground still persist - rather like one of those remote Amazonian tribes that are isolated from the rest of humanity.

The old inner city wards of Houston. 3rd, 4th & 5th Wards.

Incredible poverty & people with no hope.

You just don't go there unless you want something really bad to happen.

But, at least they have a roof over their heads unlike the homeless who live under the I-59 Interstate Downtown next to the Baseball Stadium

Not in the league of the previous posts but the below has now been vacant for 42 years

It's on one of the main routes into central Bristol, lots of transport links (10 mins to the station, 15 to the city centre) a proper access via the rear for parking etc and yet it remains undeveloped despite loads of possibly over-development nearby and more and more pressure on greenfield land further out.

I saw this pic first without reading the text and instantly thought it was Jaywick.

I used to live near Keynsham in the 70s & 80s, and the bus into the ‘bright lights’ of Bristol used to take me past there, I can remember seeing the Bristol Bus Co bare chassis’ rolling out of there to go for (presumably) coach building at a workshop up the road. It looked a bit grander then, but this picture’s the only one on the know Your Place - Bristol map viewer.

You could simply randomly drop a pin on Bradford in Google maps and the street view would be guaranteed to put you off ever visiting. My town, Barnsley, is pretty grim but I actually can’t of any areas that would put you off entirely.

That new brick tower block by Totterdown bridge is worse. BCC have a lot to answer for (see Bedminster East st as another example)

That was what I was think of with the 'over-development comment'. I'm not right up to date with everything as I'm South Glos and closer to Bath, but the building I linked astounds me that it's been empty and not developed for so long (I know there have been loads of attempts but still nothing)

The USA really is a screwed up place, so much wealth but so much total poverty. I'm sure if they invested the 900 billion they spend on the military each year on their people then they could eradicate this poverty level.

I just tried that three times and you're spot on biggrin First time the house in view had bars on the windows. Second was a terraced street with rubbish covering the whole length, and thirdly I found a burnt out car in front of some corrugated iron crack den.

Houston is spending $100 million this year to try & get people off the streets & into their own homes.

It's a slow process & naturally there's issues around why people are homeless in the first place but the program has had success over the last few years.

That is 493-499 Bath road. The land was valued at over £3.5M a while ago (so probably worth more now), I believe plans are in place for a housing development there:

https://www.bristolcivicsociety.org.uk/493-499-bat...

I used to drive past it regularly when I lived/worked in Bristol and always wondered if it was ever going to see it being redeveloped.

Edit - to add, an old office building (5 story) just up the road, on Stockwood road, was sold for around £2.8 million and converted into roughly 45 flats. A mix of 1 bed and 2 beds, at the time circa 2019, they were selling from between £170k and £200k if my memory serves correctly, so the developer made a tidy profit in around 2 years.

I'm not sure of the overall square meterage between the two plots, but the developer of the former (Stockwood road) tried their hand and applied for an entire new estate on the remaining land they had purchased as part of the initial purchase, but it was rejected, so they are leasing it out to a second hand car dealer.

Whoever purchases 493-499 Bath Road has to consider their options in all honesty. The current building isn't currently tall, so to get permission to build high will more than likely be fraught with disdain from the local residents.

People are down on their luck.

No need to document this for the amusement of others.

Have some respect.
