Don't normally post up my cars in this section, but this is a little different and hopefully a long term keeper! I've been wanting a JZX chassis car for a long time, and missed the boat somewhat with the earlier models that are now very pricey.

I managed to pick this up from HJA Imports and I'm over the moon with it. It's a totally standard grade 4 car, 60k miles and 1 Japanese owner.

It's a Fortuna Yamaha Power Edition, so a few goodies over the standard model and pretty exclusive. Anyway here are a few snaps....

Unfortunately I couldn't find a clean manual, so this one is an auto. I am collecting parts to convert using the correct manual R154 gearbox, so won't be auto for long.

All things considered, I'm really happy with it. The 1JZ-GTE pulls like a train and has bags of potential tuning wise. Happy to be back in another Toyota!

There were a few dings and imperfections through the Bodywork, nothing outrageous but requires a general tidy up. Dropped off on Monday at RM Bodywork to have this addressed and brought up to standard.

Next up is Dynatune for a mega service with all belts, fluids, plugs etc and for some other upgrades....

First thing to address is the wooden brakes up front. Went for Mk3 Megane RS 4pot Brembo calipers, 365mm ISF discs, HEL braided lines and Performance Friction Z rated pads. Unsure on fluid but something along the lines of RBF660 is likely.

Lovely brackets to accommodate the new calipers were made by a nice chap on the owners club cool

Should stop much better with this set up, and be able to take a bit if punishment on track too.

Also arrived is this lovely downpipe from another JZ fabricator guy in Melbourne. Lovely bit if kit, can't wait to get this on the car.

Last bits for now are a Greddy FMIC and an Apexi power intake. Ordered from Nengun, Japan. Intercooler still to arrive... The intake should release some much wanted turbo noises.

Next up will hopefully be the manual conversion and addressing the suspension!

If you've read this far, thanks! And for anyone interested who use Instagram, my handle is @jzx_mike for more 1JZ stuff.

For the JDM uninitiated (dimwits like me), what engine does it have, please?

Sorry, OP. Lacks details if you don't know your Japanese engine codes.....

It is a 1JZ-GTE VVTI. So a 2.5ltr straight six single turbo. This model had 300bhp+ so unsure exactly what the power level is. Capable of good power and very robust.

Very nice... that's the way to do it, good condition and with the right engine, looks great in silver with the bodykit, too.

Manual conversion sounds like a good plan.

I feel there's a real sweet spot when it comes to tuning these sort of cars, intake/exhaust/intercooler/remap but keep the stock size turbos, can end up with a really responsive engine with power over a very broad range.

I think you are right. The temptation is there to go top mount because they make great power, but with a bigger turbo comes other issues in relation to traction and drivability.

The Fortuna cars allegedly come with steel turbo internals, as appose to ceramic on normal models, so I'm hoping this is the case so I can crank the boost up and still make some good usable power.

I didn't know they existed, but it's a good looking car and sounds like an interesting project.

Have you heard of this new website, Google? You can search for things to understand more about them. Awesome resource. laugh

Like the JZX110 OP. I nearly bought a JZX100 years ago but went for an E46 M3 instead. Sadly both are no longer sub £10k....

Are there BMW gearbox swaps available for the 1J? R154s must cost a pretty penny now.

Thanks mate. I also nearly bought a 100 from a friend. Proper clean, low miles, R154 with basic mods for £9k if memory serves. That was only about 5 odd years ago too eek

The CD009 350z box and some BMW ones are fairly common for conversions but more modification are required and I've heard ratios can be a bit all over the place. For the little money I'd save, I think I'll keep it OEM as it'll add value too. Circa £7000 job for the R154 though these days, but I'm committed to the cause rofl

Congrats on the new acquisition OP, wanted a JZX for years so can understand the appeal cool

Fortunately a good friend bought a JZX100 a few years ago running 400ish bhp with some BBS LMs, coilovers/brakes and a couple of other bits i'd have done if I were fortunate enough to own one. After a quick go I was grateful for the chance to experience the car, but it surprised me how much of a barge it felt even along rural A roads - great sound from the 1J though smokin

Look forward to seeing future updates!

I'm pretty sure Jimmy Oakes (US YouTube car guy) put a 1JZ in a Toyota Carina recently.

However the US call some of their Toyota's by a different name, so may be wrong on model.

Edit - Just checked, it was a Chaser he did the swap from a standard engine to a 1JZ.

I'm with you there, very barge like. But this is my goal, to bring the handling up to standard. It'll never be perfect but improvements can definitely be made cool
