I8 as a second car
Discussion
I'm currently looking to change my car, (996 Carrera) and considering something a little left field. We have a family hack (Volvo) and the wife has a mini cooper so it would be "fun" car. I saw an I8 (could that be fun car?) a few days ago on the road and it's got me looking at the classifieds, I see you can pick them up for <£50k but I know absolutely nothing about them or anybody who has or has had one.
Anybody here have one?

Yes, we ran one but it's a PIA trying to get out of when you're starting to get old and it went when my wife broke her leg (not getting out the car, but once she'd broken it life became very tricky or several months).
I imagine the issues some have, like the coolant level always playing up, will have been fixed on older cars, the engine is the regular 3 pot used in a number of cars, albeit highly tuned, but I imagine owning out of warranty would still give some sleepless nights.
It was a nice enough car, but you needed to be in sport with a charged up battery to get any real performance out of it. The early ones have the smaller battery, we had an LCI car which had 50% more battery and a later idrive system and even that could run out of battery if having a lot of fun.
But as for making an impression, few things beat it and it's remarkable considering how long its been around now. Some claim future classic, but I'm not so sure as too many were built, unlike things like the Z8.
