Hi,
My 04 plate S4 is in the garage and facing a hefty bill to keep her on the road - the mechanic is advising repairs aren't worth doing given other potential issues.
I've run her for 10 years and love the car. I have no idea what I'd replace her with, or I'd have done this a few years back.
But I have absolutely no idea what I want, or what might come close to replacing her. Any suggestions?
Budget between £5-10k
No partner or children, social use only.
My previous car was a V6 406 which I ran for 8 years, so I've not really paid much attention to alternatives.

Some interesting cars there, thank you for the suggestions.

My thoughts on those suggested:
Whilst I pay £360 PA road tax already, I'm struggling to justify £630. I shouldn't, but it just doesn't compute for me for some reason.
The 130 BMW appeals, maybe the Z4 also.
Vauxhalls are also a possibility - I like the "sleeper" type of car.
The Jags are also interesting, but I don't know enough about them and concerns about servicing costs are well, concerns.
Mercs - I know even less about Mercs and they have never appealed to me for some reason. But the noise from the V8 is awesome!

I have to decide tomorrow if I want to sink more cash into the S4 or start looking for a replacement, I'm waiting for more info from the garage.
