Car Insurance - quality of service not price - who?
Discussion
Inspired by the 458 thread and with insurance renewal(s) coming up shortly, I am curious on quality of service for car insurers as opposed to cheapest price.
Cheapest quotes today are coming up with a company with variable reviews on claims - their prices on one of our cars are substantially cheaper, but I am wary.
In the last year we have had 2 claims, both with LV as insurer. The first was near faultlessly resolved, the second LV have been fine but their nominated repairers not leaving us without our vehicle for over 2 months out of 5 - issue remains open but I have faith in them sorting. They however will not cover 2 of the 3 vehicles we now want to insure.
As well as the screenscrapers I have tried a couple of brokers with generally poor experience (they lost vehicle details, failed to callback as promised, mixed up quotes). Each seems competitive on one of the three cars but not on the other two.
Aside from reading the policy carefully, going on feedback and reviews, how do you pick insurance which will do what it is contracted to do without major headache?
Is there a broker who anyone can recommend that would take 3 very different vehicles on their books and give a good service? A gravy EV, an M car and a 'kit' car.

Someone like Footman James perhaps?
I use them for a policy that covers my Chimaera and Trabant. But I'm seriously thinking of talking to them about my every day transport. I like that I can talk to a real person on the end of the phone. When I added the Chimaera to the policy, they had two questions "are you a member of an Owner's club and have you driven/owned high powered cars before?" They were quite happy that being a member of the IFA Club for the Trabi qualified me and the Chimaera being my third TVR was all good.

You could try https://manninguk.com/ . I found them very efficient earlier this year when I needed to change my policy three times in two months.

Thanks for the tip - a call established they are self admittedly really uncompetitive (and I mean really!) on modern vehicle(s) and can only quote me on one modern vehicle per 'classic'. The Caterham however they were competitive on as an overall package (considering price and benefits). Their agreed value needs a qualified expert which is a slight irritation, would be simpler for me to ditch that and buy GAP insurance versus invoice, although with the Caterhams it may be the market value does not drop at all. Thank you - have just got off the phone. Got to say that call was simplest of all those I have had (understood what I wanted, explained what they can offer etc.), prices and final options due tomorrow-ish (Caterham goes to underwriters and takes a day or two).Edited by boombang on Wednesday 10th August 11:18
Morris came in ~£9k on the road cars, each.
Adrian Flux were competitive on the Caterham but again not on the road cars, A-Plan the same (with the best overall Caterham cover).
Looking like sticking with LV for one road car (based on good experience) and A-Plan on the Caterham.
The other road car is not one LV cover, so looking at either MoreThan (the cheapest defacto 5 star insurer who has a reasonable reputation), or Hastings Direct / Admiral and pray nothing goes wrong.

I had a 'high net worth' policy covering multiple vehicles with DUAL Private Clients, brokered by AIB in Eastleigh. Similar products are available from the likes of Hiscox and Chubb, and other brokers specialising in these products exist such as Pace Ward in Stoke.
The policy offered fully comp coverage for me driving other people's cars, and for me to drive other people's cars. No excess, choice of repairer, Euro breakdown, all the usual frills.
When I incurred a fault claim by going off the road on black ice, incurring a repair of approx £7k, it was handled no questions asked by my preferred repairer.

Id give Adrian Fluxx a B+.
UK call centres and staff seem pretty switched on.
Good prices on complex insurance cases.
Their calls centres are a bit annoying. Lots of being passed between teams, long wait times, calls that don’t get returned when they say etc. I never look forward to speaking with them, but could be worse.
I have never had to claim fortunately.

SAGA or NFU amongst the mainstream insurers if you generally want a good quality of service when needing to make a claim and are prepared to pay a premium premium for it.
Saga can be quite competitive on price. They were actually the cheapest (for decent cover) on a comparison site for me 2 years ago, so one of my cars is with them.I was with NFU for a few years, but they got a bit expensive for cars. Still got my house insurance with them though. Can't fault them for customer service.

Like other insurers they have recently requested tracker as a requurement on anything worth over £100k.
I have just renewed with Saga for a grand total of £332 for two cars.
2015 BMW 528i for £187 and 2011 C3 Picasso for £145, up £10 overall from last year. The Picasso was actually £3 cheaper than last year.
That also includes a replacement vehicle for both cars so very good value I think. They also get good reviews.
You do have to be over 50 though.

I've used both AIB or ManningUK in the past, in my experience both have been responsive to phone calls and emails and typically i've only dealt with one member of staff from quote (s) through to paying for the policies.
I've claimed with neither so I can't comment on what happens when it goes wrong with them.
