It looks like the love-child of a Trasformer and Dalek.

I'd guess the appendage it's self is absolutely road legal, the missing headlight however is not so legal.

edit to add: the MOT man might not think the protrusion is very pedestrian friendly even if it's not capable of exterminating them

The new Honda Dalek!

It can't possibly be legal if the headlight unit's been replaced and there's a protruding item at the front.
Perhaps the owner got lazy returning from a track day?

There's something dangling from the rear view mirror similar to the usual tat in a hire car and a sticker on the windscreen saying TMF which matches the plate, is it a car sharing security thing?

Care to enlighten me?

Has it been dragged there as there are visible straps under the bumper?

Guessing it’s some kind of air intake, seems to be bodged together using a lot of electrical tape.

Absolutely not legal.

Why would you do that? Why would you want to be less visible at night and less able to see what's on the road in front of you?

Hmm good spot, tmf racing appears mostly to be a German motorcycle parts reseller company. Different style of logo too, doesn’t match the writing in this car.

I noticed the straps - broken down after a track day?

Although you'd like to think if the owner had the skill to do a K24 swap, they'd have the skill to make a neat air intake!

It wouldn't pass an MOT, but IIRC a motorcycle only requires a headlamp if it is being used at night.

Wonder if a similar long-forgotten rule applies to cars?

Might be the intake for a turbo swap on a sidewinder manifold. They are pretty close to that area.
