After 83k miles I’m having my first real issue which I hope you can help with.

Car is a 2013 GTS with the V8 and the aforementioned 83k miles. I had the 80k service done 1000 miles ago which may be significant.

Here is the situation…

Short version- coolant temp increases at idle but fine when driving.

I drove 500 miles with no issues. Parked up with the intention of moving the car the next day. When I started it up in the morning, the check coolant light came on and the temp hit max. I checked the coolant level and it was a little low so topped it up with bottled water. It didn’t seem to take much to submerge the two metal components of the sensor and I added a little more. This made the light turn out so everything seemed normal.

Today, I hit the road and did 100 trouble free miles before getting to the border. I stopped and the water temp started jumping around and heading to max. I turned the engine off and the water temp cooled in a minute back to normal. I started the car up and the temp jumped again, but moving the car forward 10 feet made it drop back to normal.

Thinking I hadn’t added enough coolant, I bought some and topped up. This did not improve the situation.

I then drove 200 more trouble free miles.

Missed off the question, anyone seen similar? I did some research and it could be water pump to thermostat or head gasket. I’m still 200+ miles from home so not ideal.

Further details…

After 3 hours parked up, the engine is still warm at 170F normal is 200F. I moved it 100ft and it’s at 200F. When I turned off the car and did not hear the fans running. Normally, the fans would be on max after parking up. I’m thinking fan fuse.

Did they replace the coolant during service. Air trapped in system?
Fan fault? Fine when driving and air flowing but not when stationary?
Thermostat?
Obd scanner should throw up a fault code if there is one.

They did change the coolant at the service and my first thoughts were that it was air bubbles. When the temp increases it jumps around as if there is bubbles. The oil temp goes from 210-212 and that’s it.

As soon as the car is moving the temp goes to 200 and doesn’t move. One issue with that is the temp reading is fake. Porsche have been providing blended readings for years.

Due to the fan behaviour, my current thought is fan fuse and will check in the morning. I know o can drive from where I am 3000 miles with no issue if I head West. Unfortunately, I have to head to NYC on Saturday from Saratoga, where I am, which will mean traffic.

If it is a fuse, the. That’s a quick fix and I will be happy.

It isn’t the fuse.
