Any suggestions for a speech based radio channel that is different from BBC Radio 4 and LBC.
I don't want a phone in station, I would like sensible, adult discussions, no particular political bias. I wouldn't mind if there was ocassional music.
Ideas, please?
I would suggest looking for podcasts and the like. Plenty available on BBC sounds and subscription providers.I don't want a phone in station, I would like sensible, adult discussions, no particular political bias. I wouldn't mind if there was ocassional music.

Times Radio is my go to these days. That in the morning and podcasts in the afternoon.

There's TalkRadio but not sure how much of that is phone in type stuff.
I enjoy talk radio (particularly the 'anti-James O'Brien' Mike Graham) but from, poor, memory there is a fair chunk which is phone-in. That said they do have a motoring podcast which may/may-not be of interest. I'm not sure how many talk-radio stations you'll get with little/no political bias though since that bias seems to be what drives advertising...There's TalkRadio but not sure how much of that is phone in type stuff.

Definitely recommend giving Times Radio a go. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/radio
Breakfast show is very good, as is Matt Chorley on straight afterwards. John Pinaar’s drive time show and Michael Portillo on Fridays are also worth a listen.
I’ve pretty much given up on LBC now apart from Nick Abbot and I find Times Radio more engaging than R4
I listen to 5 live a fair bit.
especially good now Campbell has gone in the mornings and I like the drive time team.
Some dross in the middle of the day, and the lefty slant gets a bit tiresome, but when you dont fancy music, it's about the best for news, just not sport anymore as the female sports bias is blazingly obvious and not really representative of real life

I really enjoy Times Radio, they get very pertinent guests & interviewees. Carole Walker is excellent and Hugo Rifkind on Saturday mornings is good entertainment.
I listened to LBC for a while but with callers it got tedious/repetitive.
Another vote for Times Radio, they have the benefit of a range of good Times newspaper reporters and experts, interviews are in depth and interesting. I also like R5 at breakfast. Hardly listen to LBC, the presenters are too self interested and I'm really not interested in 'phone -in' type calls.
Yep, Time Radio has proven to be pretty good - especially when the 'first choice' presenters are on (some of the stand-ins covering holidays etc are a bit weak).
Stig and Aasmah breakfast (M-Th) and Mariella afternoons are both highlights for me. The only weak spot for me is 'drive time' with John Pienaar - he's dour and very much in the BBC mould.

My favourites are Julia Hartley-Brewer, Mike Graham and Ian Collins on Talk TV/Radio.
I also like Tony and Claire on 5 Live from 4 until 7. However I find some other 5 Live presenters impossible to listen to because they are so trendy/lefty/woke - Nicky Campbell, Stephen Nolan and Nihal Arthanayake are the worst ones.
LBC just seems to attract weirdos 'phoning in to offer daft and often extreme opinions, which quickly gets boring.
Having read this thread I think I'll give Times Radio a try too.

The LBC podcasts are easy to access from the car on mine.O’Brien/ Abbott / Mair / Adam with his disgraced Johnson & thick Truss commentary / Bull
Skip the rest!
Also the Swarbrick “The Session” podcasts are excellent
