I have owned it for 2 weeks now and am really liking it a lot. It’s a 2013 f13 (2 door coupe) m sport in carbon black/blue/black/blue etc etc etc lol.
It’s got some nice options such as the moon roof, HUD and soft close doors (bit pointless imo but looks cool)
Driving it is wonderful, it’s so smooth, quiet and surprisingly fast in a calm way!
However, some things I’ve found are surprising for such an expensive when new car.
My previous car was a 2006 E92 330d which was probably half the price when new.
The things that the smaller and cheaper 3er had which the 6er doesn’t are as follows, much sturdier feeling exterior door handles, a bit of rear passenger leg room, interior lighting in the rear and air vents for the rear passengers. Drop down rear seats was standard on E92’s but an option on F13’s! Also inflatable bolsters for m sport seats on E9x’s was standard I believe whereas optional on f13’s which I now don’t have.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the 6 and all the above gripes aren’t really a problem for me as I rarely if ever carry more than one passenger, just surprised BMW seemed to cheap out on these things.

It’s usually a case of what they give with one hand they take away with another!

Stuff like the inflatable bolsters being an option is cheeky when they are standard on an M Sport 1 series (or at least I think they are….my M140i had them). The fold down seats option has always annoyed me; standard on a 3 series coupe but an option on the saloon. Not having lighting in the back is really tight though.

The F12/13 is a great looking car though.

Always baffled me, drop down rear seats being optional on the car that’s bought because it’s more practical than the 2 door coupe.

The Gran Sport has the items you mention (rear leg room, lighting and vents); the coupe is definitely focussed on the front two seats. I think you get two kinds of seats, comfort and sport; Sport seats have the inflatable bolsters (mine did). I thought Sport seats came automatically with the MSport trim but having just looked at a few in the classifieds, many are MSport cars but with the basic comfort seats... so that's maybe what yours has?

The lack of drop down seats in the back was a bit of pain but IIRC mine did have the ski hatch... not that I ever used it.

Glad you're enjoying it though. Mine was Carbon Black too and whilst I liked the looks, Tanzanite Blue would have been my choice of colour.

Mines got the standard sport seats so inflatable bolsters were an option that mine didn’t get. Tanzanite blue would be my favourite choice too.

I've also had a 640i Coupe for 3 weeks and noticed some similar things missing/not standard

No storage in the rear (my 630i Coupe has a nice big storage area with a lid for the rear occupants)
No lights in the ceiling at the rear
No air vents or 3rd zone controls in the rear
Completely stuck rear seats, cant move them at all.
Tiny mirrors in the sun visors

Perhaps that all comes with the Gran Coupe?

Im not convinced with the handling though, mine seems to float and drift and needs constant correction on the motorway, perhaps Im getting use to the Run flats again!

I swap between my 630 and 640 and I think the 630 feels better on the motorway

Couple of others I’ve remembered, I miss the little storage compartment to the right (rhd) of the steering column but far worse than that is the tiny under boot floor storage compared to the E92.

had mine 4 weeks aswell

pros

- looks good (although do not get many looks like the old 987 boxster )
- good mpg (if you want)
- very nice cabin
- cheapish to tax
- stage 1 remap should see most cars beat 20-70

cons

- rear seat room
- no fold down rear seats for boot space
- very very big car
- front pillar blocks my view on many roundabouts

Did 70k(took it from 15k to 85k) miles in one and was really happy with it. They offer a fantastic performance/economy mix I reckon.

A mate of mine has an early 645i (Maybe an 06 plate?) and he says the same about the rear seat space, and I have noticed the same it really is a 2+2 type car with a huge boot on it.

The front is a lovely place but the rear I wouldn't want to put people in.

Must be a feature of the 6 series models.

The 6 series is a reverse tardis(massive on the outside/tiny on the inside). Both the E92 M3 I had, and the F82 M4 I have now are much bigger in the rear seats in comparison. The 6 series is best viewed as a 2 seater I reckon, whereas the E92 M3/F82 M4 are genuine 2+2s.

Indeed, BMW have always been good at the reverse tardis, but the 6 series absolutely masters it and takes it to the next level. hehe They’re a good looking thing though.

Agree. I nearly went for an 08 E63 650i and the rear was laughable, more so with me in it... Great boot space though!

Such a shame as it'd have been a superb car!

6/8 coupe series is a GT - two seater with low slung profile, long bonnet, small cabin. It is not meant to be a practical car that should carry four passengers. Inevitably if you want space behind you compromise on the GT looks. That's why e.g. Mercedes E classs coupe has much more space inside as well as way more rear leg room than S class (which is laughable) whilst being a shorter car.

If you like the looks and want more legroom then just get the Gran Coupe.

I've had my 640d GC for just over 2 1/2 years and have put over 50k miles on it.

I was starting to get a bit fed up with it but after a kind lady reversed into it I ended up with an M4 Competition for 2 weeks as a courtesy car from the insurance company. As much as it was an incredible car when I got back in the 6 series it made me realise how good a car they are.

The build quality alone is leagues above the 3/4 series.

If it wasn’t for the compromise I had to make with the mrs “you have a car and we’re having a new bathroom” I’d have splashed out on an LCI gc but the coupe I bought was local and a very good price so I’m happy enough with it. I very rarely have need for rear seats these days but given there isn’t really a compromise on the styling side then the GC just makes more sense.
So far I haven’t done anything other than shopping and commuting in it but I’m really liking it.

Just got back from a week's holiday in my 630i, two kids in the back and three bikes on a bike rack, Boot is no problem at all for the luggage, my ten year old and five year old are just about OK in the back. It's all do able if you enjoy the car.
