What reasons do you have to choose one bank over another?

I have accounts with First Direct, Monzo, Starling and now Chase.

My salary is paid into FD and DDs are there, but my day-to-day spending has switched from Starling to Monzo and now Chase. They all have their merits, and Chase's interest rates plus cashback is currently leading the pack for me. Having said that, the amount of money in rewards and interest is relatively insignificant as I don't keep a lot of cash in my current account.

Are there any compelling reasons why I should choose one over the other, or are they effectively much of a muchness and simply go with the one I 'like' best?

Recently switched from HSBC (after close to 20 years...) to FD and Chase.

Same as you; salary into FD where all DDs are handled, balance then transferred into Chase which is used for day-to-day.

The round up function is good (5% AER), savings accounts at 1.5% AER and 1% cashback on all spending is better than anything else I've found.

I find FD good.

Now I would just be changing every 18 months or whatever to get the free £100/£150 joining bonus.

I have the same one I've had since Uni... I got a free ball point and a tenner... Which was invested in the student union.

I probably ought to read this thread.

I have a Chase current account. The linked savings account giving 1.5% interest is nice but their debit card doesn’t suit my spending patterns so I don't use it. I buy most stuff online so need the purchase protection of a credit card. My only large ‘in person’ purchases are weekly food and petrol and it’s too much trouble to transfer enough cash to the Chase current account to cover those items for a 1% cash back purchase.

It’s also frustrating when so many purchases don’t qualify for cash back anyway.

Been with FD since the early 90s. Only "problems" I had with them was when I was running a massive overdraft, and earning st money. Even then, they tried to help the stupid, dumb ass 24 year old me.

Since I'm now not a UK resident, I'm keeping my FD account open in case .....

I was in those shoes too. Barclays.
And after continual shower of ste, nonsense and disinterest from them, I have moved to Handeslbanken.

Ok, not amused at a monthly fee, but by 'eck. Chalk and cheese. Ring the branch, more or less same person every time, and just 'do'.
Had some big payments to move around recently and compared to colleagues doing the same, it was a doddle compared to the Virgins, HSBC's etc.

I'll give them a year and decide whether to switch to Starling.

We use Starling, like the app and ability to use abroad with no charges.

Also have a Chase account and would probably move all over to this, but no option for a shared account so far.

Revolut.

The ability to change currency then spend in that currency, makes purchases abroad much easier and cheaper.

Virtual and single use cards for online is a good feature.

Another FD/Chase combo.

Been with FD since the early’90s and will always keep them as my “main” bank account simply because when you call them you’re straight through to a UK call centre without having to navigate loads of menus. Not that I’ve called them for ages.

Chase’s perks are pretty good at the moment- 1.5% interest and cashback and slick app. But at the mo not quite enough functionality to be a main current account…
