Stig, Top-Gear, etc

Here in the US, they've started running the UK program "Top Gear" and over the last couple of weeks I've caught most of the shows. Its a great show. Every so often they reference a top performance car and run it around their track. Just this week they ran a Porsche Carrera GT as their best time (I'm guessing that to those in the UK this is an old episode).

However, they reference that their driver goes by the name "Stig". I can't help but notice that a number of posts on this PH forum are by "Stig".

Can someone let me in on the story here? Is Stig an owner, a driver, or a bone-fide "underwear on the outside super-hero"? Has an Ultima been driven through the Top Gear track? If so, where does it sit in their ranking, etc??

I was 'Stig' before the Top Gear ones existed though!

Perry McCarthy was the original Top Gear Stig, there's a lot of speculation abotu the identities of the others (there are more than two).

The old top gear did do a gtr review about 3 years ago, but no ultimas on the "new" topgear. Ultima and such publicity is a bit of a sore subject! I think the point about the stig is they can use a few drivers rather than have one let them down or want more money!
