It seems that the polestar and Tesla roadster are very powerful and very expensive. Can someone please build the following:
A 2 seater roadster with a battery or hybrid power train that does about 250 - 300 horsepower.
No crazy handling needed. No huge launch control / power etc needed.
It’s just for cruising around in summer ( sitting in traffic . .) so needs a decent stereo and a boot for shopping.
Am I completely out of touch ?
Surely a nice electric / hybrid open top car can be built and sold at a profit for under £60k?
Wouldn’t it be a massive hit ?
Why are there none available ?
I just don’t get it ?

Surely part of the appeal would also be a nice engine note.

Why the hybrid/electric insistence?

I've been surprised at the lack of smaller electric cars, Model 3 size. Everyone is trying to make SUVs and get the range up. Just make the car more aerodynamic ffs

Or no engine note at all... it's possible that that would appeal to some...

apart from being a 4 seater, what about this?

If you're adamant on 2 seaters, you're probably best waiting for the MX-5 NE (probably) which will presumably be hybrid/electric.

got a few non petrol head freinds that own convertibles MX-5, Figaro, Eos and C70. None could give the slightest toss about engine noise other than possibly having less. The SL AMG owner does like noise though.

So far as I can make the issue so far has been the weight of the battery would cause any cabrio to bend about all over the place.

MG Cyberster will tick all of that (at least from expectations)

Next gen Boxster entry model probably not far off the mark either.

Do Mini not do a EV cab yet? Is it only the Fiat in that segment?

All good points.
I think that, for me at least, a cabriolet either has an amazing v8 sound or none at all. So, if we are being driven away from big engines cars, the manufacturers would be Missing an open goal by providing a small 2 seater - I reckon a boxter elec would sell out straight away .

If you look past the recent concept (and Chinese human rights), it will look something similar to this. Will look great in a bold colour

With the MG - the problem is that it is going to be a £100k plus car

Where do you get that idea from? I thought the expectation was around £30k.

This. People on PH seem to think that an engine that makes a noise is in some way desirable - the rest of the world really don’t want to hear it. It’s like playing loud music in you’d garden

the EV hatch it shares a platform and drivetrain with starts at £25k, can't see it being anywhere near £100k. Wouldn't be surprised if they sold it with a very low profit margin to promote the brand. MG are selling loads of cars, over 4 times as many as Honda

I had no idea this existed! Seems odd that you don't get it on the continent....

OP, this is the very car you described in you post, sure with two additional backseats, but imho this suits a cabriolet very well.

Either way, my understanding is:
2 seater, sporty open top car = Roadster
4 seater cruiser open top car = Cabriolet

aren't they only mild hybrids?

Looks like they haven't bothered too much with the design element, MGF with new headlights and bonnet springs to mind.
