Last November, the day before my birthday in fact, i got a little brown envelope from Plod. 82 in a 70 (perfectly safely i might add), on a mobile camera. 3 points and £60 please.

I've now given up watching Road Wars style programmes, as I can't believe what people get away with! The punishments that people get for doing things far worse than my piffling 12mph over the limit are laughable. For example:

Guy in big Merc on the M40 between J4 and 5 in average traffic doing over 100 weaving in and out, tailgating (and I mean SERIOUS tailgating), undertaking, generally driving like a d:censored:ck. Plod saw all this and all he did was pull him over and give him a stern talking to!

Also, guy in a truck gets pulled over. Self employed with own haulage company. Has bald tyres (3 points per bald tire i believe), no taco, no operators license, no tax. Goes to magistrates.... £20 fine! That's it! £20 when I got fined £60 for going 12mph over the limit on a nearly empty dual carrigeway!

:furious: ARGH! :furious:

It's just not fair!

OK, rant over.

I think your confusing speed cameras with law enforcement.

Perhaps it's time you bought a Road Angel. The trouble with Scameras is the see things as Black % White. The BIB have a more open view.

The short answer is, if you cant do the time, dont do the crime. Harsh I know but you broke the law and you have to pay. Sorry, life a Bitch and then I married one.

Not having one of these devices, can I ask how people amend their driving behaviour? Not a wind up but a genuine question. I guess it varies from individual to individual.

For example I know of a number of places where covert enforcement takes place which is not on the database afaik, or just up the road after the point where a user would have speeded up.

As I say this is not a wind up question, interested to know how various people use these devices in practice.

But its not the BiB though is it ?

The Police are merely there to detect crime, the actual prosecution is left to the CPS. If anything, this post illustrates rather finely that most people would prefer to deal with the BiB on a face to face basis & be subject to a more common sense approach to policing, rather than some faceless automoton whose entire existance is geared towards generating revenue, as opposed to stopping crime.

totally agree.
I can't use any persuasive powers on a tin box!!

What is the score with these VOSA wagons on the M40/M5/M6 - will they be hitting speed too?

I was pulled last week for 86mph (VASCAR) and "touching 90" on the A27 dual carriageway near Chichester. Officer takes into account my car (VX220 at the time), the light traffic and safe driving (and maybe my liberal use of the word "sir" ), and decides that a good talking to and a warning about the consequences of a blow-out at that speed will be enough.

There was nothing inherently dangerous in the speed I was doing and the officer recognised that, a camera would not.

As for a ticket for 82 in a 70, that's a joke.

I got an Origin B2 a little while back, inspired by the placement of some of these dangerous roadside cashpoints.

I wouldnt say that it had really changed my driving, as I still rely on total paranoia as my only real form of protection. I just wanted to try and tilt the odds a little in my favour, and get a little help where the automated mugging machines have been really sneakily placed.

I'd much rather go back to having the "old fashioned" human traffic enforcement. I know of 3 people who've been hit by uninsured drivers now. How do the cameras stop that?

I have an Origin B2 already! This was a mobile van thing.

I fully admit I broke the law, and I accept my punishment, I have no problem with this at all. I've never complained that I was caught, cos it was my own fault, my point is that somehow, the 5-0 need to standardise punishment. I just see it as unfair that someone can commit a far more dangerous crime (or string of crimes) and completely get away with it!

I got done by a mobile camera on a quiet, dry, dual carriageway stretch of the A69 a couple of weeks ago. 80 mph in a 70mph. If anyone knows this road then they will know that at midday on a Monday, the traffic is very light.

Just feels so unjust. Its not like I was driving a twenty year old fiesta with drum brakes and bald tyres. No disctretion however with these tw@ts.

Can anybody tell me which of these speed detector jobbies actually picks up scamera vans??

The Origin B2 'should' (I didn't have mine when I was done) if they're using a laser camera. You can buy an optional radar detector (~£90), so then it should see both types. Problem is if they laser you, they get an instant speed back so by the time the robot lady has a chance to warn you, you're already busted.

Tricky business these mobiles.

Although, can't recommend the B2 highly enough. Knows where EVERYTHING staitonary is, talks to you telling what type of camera it is and what the limit is, even warns you about SPECS.
