Great films, let's hope Cineworld don't go bust before you get to see them.

According to their Twitter replies whatever is happening won’t effect their customers… they insist they are staying open so we’ll see.

I've never been able to decide if I like The Motion Picture. There is certainly some justification for it being referred to as "The Motionless Picture" and it does drag on a bit, but equally, there are some brilliant scenes. The truth about V'ger reveal is still one of my greatest cinema memories, I was 16 at the time, and still marvelling at Close Encounters two years ealier.

The Wrath of Khan though, well it's the best of the lot IMHO. Montalban is just sublime and so many memorable lines. "I never forget a face..." and "From hell's heart I stab at thee" and Sulu's "We're not going to make it, are we?..." and the engineer: "Sir, the mains are back on line".... and of course the moment when Kirk sees Khan for the first time... Right, I'm watching it this afternoon :-)

Films like this should be permanently on at small cinemas in every town for say a fiver.

Be a nice way to spend a wintery afternoon.

But Cineworld and their £14.99 tickets can go fek themselves.

Oh yes, Khaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!

My fondness of TMP isn’t really geared towards anything other than how beautifully it was shot/looks. The new new version of it has been digitally altered/enhanced and from what I’ve seen looks stunning. So as a visual treat I’m really looking forward to it. WOK is just one of my favourite films, and will always be the best Star Trek picture. The franchise peaked in the 80’s and 90’s, for me.

Remember being a big Star Trek fan as a kid, my dad took me to see TMP and I was totally bored with the lack of action.

Not sure I’ve seen it in full since maybe I should revisit it.

Thanks for the heads up just got back from one of the local cinemas after watching The Motion Picture.

Pretty sure it's the only Star Trek film I've ever seen at the cinema and even 40 years on I thought it suited the big screen smile

£5.99 well spent.

And just seen Wrath of Khan.

Pretty sure I didn't see it at the cinema as a kid but what an amazing difference it makes seeing it on a big screen with cinema sound thumbup

I saw 'The Motion Picture' at the local cinema (when we still had a local cinema) when I was a kid .. unfortunately, I thought it was really boring, seemed to drag on forever and I just didn't like it at all. I've never really bothered to rewatch it though I probably would appreciate it more today as basically at the time I was expecting a turbocharged episode of the TV show. It was a lot more like the 'serious' 1970s Sci Fi movies than it was like'Star Wars' .. which it was always going to be measured against and which had changed the game for Sci Fi in the movies.

On the other hand, loved the Wrath of Khan. Great film. All the great Trek characters and lots of action plus some great performances with a high budget and production values. Exactly what I wanted from Star Trek movie.

I remember when Star Trek V came out one cinema in Essex showed the first five as one movie marathon. It was brilliant, as previously my first ST cinema experience was ST4. They all stand up as great movies. Well, maybe not 5…

The same cinema did the same when Alien3 came out which was great, a chance to see Alien on the big screen.

Ironically, the budget for 'The Motion Picture' was $44 million, whereas the budget for 'The Wrath of Khan' was $12 million. Even though ‘Khan’ took less at the box office, it made 8 times its budget & guaranteed the franchise.
