The Griff had a bit of an overheat yesterday, steam pouring in from under the dash and a water coming in from a pipe near the heater matrix. After re-filling and pressurising the system there were no obvious leaks altho the rad may be dropping a bit.
If this is a new rad job where's the best place to source it? It's also a possible excuse to get an ally one.

Not too sure at the moment as I've not had time to look. The bloke from the AA spotted a small leak in the passenger footwell possibly one of the heater control valves but there was some water that may have been leaking from the rad altho it wasn't gushing out under pressure and there were no puddles under the car this morning. He seemed to think it was a new rad job.

Yep that was my thought altho I checked the levels 2 weeks ago and they looked ok and I've not used the car that much in that time. The expansion tank showed normal levels but the header was considerably low and there were no obvious leaks yesterday when I re-arranged the ECU in the footwell.
Sounds like you've got a pipe not seated properly/beginning to split around the heater matrix.
RadTec make nice alloy rads. (ACT stock them IIRC) I have recently fitted one - it works extremely well and looks like a work of art too.
I have the old rad that anyone can have for the price of postage if they want to get it re-cored. It's no use to me now and I'd prefer it was recycled rather than binned.

That def looks like a useful bit of kit.
Finding the leaks wasn't that difficult as water seems to be pouring out of the rad somewhere(couldn't spot the exact part), and also from one of the heater valves in the pass. footwell.
Can anyone tell me how much for a new standard rad, I'm tempted by the ally one but it really depends on the price difference, the ally one is 450 notes.

Just had an aluminium rad put in my Chim. Cost £300 for the rad. Car hardly ever gets hot enough for the fans to come on now - sits at around 85degC, which is nice.
dunno if it's the same rad for a Griff

Is it the RadTec one? It looks like that fits the Chim + Griff + Cerbie

Dunno but my Chim had an unusual rad which they only used for a year (according to my repair man who knows about these things). It needed a bottom hose modification to fit. Looked exactly like the Cerbie one but, apparantly (the man knows), Cerbie has 3 row rad, Chim has 2 row.

I've opted for the RadTec one which will be with me in 10 days or so. I'm told by them that this should be a simple replacement and no extra bits etc Is this peoples experience of fitting one? Or will I need any other bits?
The old rad is out so I'm hoping half the job is done. Just got to remove the fans from their mounts and the removal's a goodun.

I fitted mine in about an hour. There were a couple of holes to drill in the mounting brackets, but that was it.
I did shim mine to be as vertical as possible and make sure the only air flow route was through the core. (I'm not having the air be lazy and go around the rad) I guess that's why I've got an overcooling problem now

Did mine over the weekend only I'm a bleed screw short of a rad but it's on it's way. Had to trim off the mounting brackets quite a bit to use the existing bolts but apart from that pretty simple to fit.
I ain't bovered about the air round the sides as the design looks like it'll pull more air through when the fans are on and I have the mod-wise dual speed gizmo fitted so hopefully all will be fine when I finally get round to getting coolant in there.
