Was out for a run last night enjoying a fine summer evening and it would appear that there is a problem with the pop-up headlights.

Had the side lights on, the pop-up lights already raised, and decided that it was getting dark enough for dipped beam. Pushed the dash board switch all the way up and the pop-up lights dropped and stayed down. All lights (dash, rear, front) are still illuminated.

Put the switch back to "side light" position and the pods rise up again.

Any pointers as to what I should be checking ?

KJR.

Edited to add that the car is a 1989 400SE.

Think I'd start with the switch contacts.

As it's an '89 it probably has that bloody stupid dim-dip thing fitted, that perhaps complicates matters...

A non-dim/dip car won't normally put the pods up on sidelights only.

Try flashing your lights with the pods down; some cars flash just the driving lamps, some flip the pods up and light the main beams (technically I think it has to be main beams, driving lamps don't qualify).

I haven't a wiring diagram handy with d/d on it so can't help more at the moment...

Thanks for the info guys.

Wedg1e, from memory, the pods stay down when the "flash" function is used, the "driving lamp"/main beam lights come on.

Anyone got tips on getting the switch out of the dash. I recall trying to remove it before and not being able to budge it a mm ?
