So tcensoredt here ( wavey that’s me) has had a bad week at work, come back to a flat battery on my car, taken it off, slammed the bonnet and then begun to wonder where my spanner is? Ahh it would be on top of the fuse box! That’s why the bonnet now has a 20mm extra panel gap…

Long story short, the cable has stretched and as I have been in and out of the bonnet on this car for the last few months has finally decided to fail, probably helped by the spanner jamming the bonnet open.

So the bonnet is latched shut and I cannot now release it, I have tried pulling the cable it’s self from within the car under the steering wheel but I cannot get it to open.

Before I dismantle the entire front of the car, is there anything else worth a try?
The car is a 1999 Omega.

Get someone to push down on the front of the bonnet to take the pressure off of the catch while you pull the cable.

And then lift it with the cable still under tension.
