Odd to see this after seeing a YouTube video about an old fella getting lost in an US shopping mall after stumbling through a fire door and losing himself in the labyrinthian service corridors.

He was found 3 weeks later having died after a few days

There has to be more to the story than that. I've done loads of work on big buildings and service areas are either not that big, or if they are they tend to be well used (which is why they are big)

I suspect he managed to get into a single space that he couldn't find a way out of. Lots of rooms are not visited for weeks or months because the kit is reliable and remotely monitored.

Hmm - would could easily be missed if you are following say the left hand wall is if the passage descends a level on a slope and the route back up is a stair or ladder on the right hand wall then you could continuously circle an outer wall - with the exit somewhere in a middle section

So it wouldn't always work, my advice would be to unwind a ball of string as you go, and watch closely for Minotaurs.

Years ago we were in the roof / loft space in a office building trying to find some broken cable. Someone turned off the lights (perhaps an auto timer I forget) and we didn’t have phones for a torch.

You had to walk along certain areas to get to the exit, which had stairs.

I got it wrong, it was a Westfield in Sydney and the poor fella did have dementia.
