Hi all

have currently got a Denon AVR-x2700 sitting in my basket at PeterTyson. Its £649.

Am I bonkers to buy this? Marantz/yamaha don't seem to have anything as good in similar price bracket.

The 2700 should allow me to connect my 4k bluray and my ps5 and also have eArc send Dolby "stuff" from the likes of netflix/prime/disney from my LGOLED55CX to the amp. Also I should be able to add atmos speakers and a 2nd sub woofer if I want to a a later date.

Is there anything that I should consider before "pulling the trigger"? is price about right?

thanks.

ps cant believe I said pulling the trigger.

It's a Denon AVR that does everything you need it to, for less than a grand. What's not to like?

Denon do seem to be leading the pack at the moment in terms of features and compatibility.
As long as the 4k/120 issues that were doing the rounds last year with some brands (dunno if they affected Denon) have all been addressed, go for it.

I've got a 1700, can't remember what the difference is. IIRC it does everything you described, but I might be wrong.

It's fairly good. Sometimes it needs a power cycle to pick up the right source but this might be a product of my setup (PC to TV to AVR, switching between PC and TV as actual source of audio) and it's not a massive deal.

Anything £500-£1000 will all be much of a muchness as it's the most competitive price segment. Only thing to really consider is whether you need multiple HDMI 2.1 sockets for games consoles. You can 't really go wrong with Denon/Marantz (or any of the other notable brands - Yamaha, Sony etc) at these price points. You need to step up the budget to £1k+ to see noticeable improvements and differences. The biggest decision is whether you really need multiple speaker surround sound capability of whether actually a 2.0/1 set up would suffice? Because then you have some more interesting choices of HiFi stereo amps that now have HDMI/ARC connections, which will provide superior audio than an all dancing AVR at similar price points.

If you only need a 2.1 set up then a Denon DRA800H might fit the bill and would work out cheaper - £369 from Hyperfi.

Sevenoaks had one on sale for £599 so Ive ordered. All the reviews of it are glowing to say the least.
Ive got the wharfdale DX2 5.1 speaker set up and 2 sub woofers so I think it should be pretty good with that.

Thinking of using the front L/R wharfdales for atmos at a later date and bunging in a slightly larger front pair of LR to replace.
