Whilst I appreciate pubs and cafes struggling after covid why is there still an obsession that if seated outside everything has to be served in takeaway cups or in a cardboard box.
A couple of months ago me and mrs went for a lovely canal walk stopped off at a cafe and had a lovely coffee in a china cup and saucer and a slice of cake on a plate had a lovely time thought we would go back last weekend to which we were served coffee in a takeaway cup and a slice of cake in a bloody box lets just say I wont be returning the same with some pubs serving pints in plastic cups and wine in the same when outside I appreciate the broken glass element but I haven't got to 60 years old to have reverted back to a toddler that can't manage a pint glass and also wine needs to be in a wine glass (glass being the operative word) thing is if its a bit windy the bloody things blow over again will not be returning to these places what a world we live now banghead

Plastics for outdoors are normally stipulated for licensed premises where there is risk of injury (ie. someone glassing someone)

If you dont like takeaway cups sit inside confused

Your not going to miss much in the 20 minutes it takes you to eat your cake.

Not sure if OP is serious or not?

If serious...

Paper/plastic prevents breakages and also reduces risk.

Really not sure what the difference is between having a pint in a plastic pint pot or glass one or having cake on a plate or from a box?

Come on guys I can honestly say pre covid not one pub or cafe served a pint in a plastic beaker and when sitting outside most still serve in a glass you can't tell me that if your wife partner or girlfriend was given a plastic beaker full of wine she wouldn't be happy maybe it's just mine lol

I agree with you about the cake, bit there's a big difference in drinking beer or wine from a glass than from a plastic mug.

Quite agree with the OP. I hate drinking a pint from a flimsy plastic 'glass'. I understand the need for it in some circumstances, but it doesn't mean I like it.

Maybe it's an age thing with the cafe if I wanted a takeaway coffee I would have gone to Starbucks or Costa I have just paid £15 for two coffees and a slice of cake and a scone I wasn't expected it to be served in a takeaway cup and a cardboard box we bang on about packaging and plastics saving the planet etc for it all to be thrown away in a nearby bin can't anyone wash a few plates now or are we back to catching covid from someone's else's plate and cutlery

Not always. This is the Lookout Cafe in Ramsgate overlooking Sandwich. Proper mug outside.

I drink a lot in The City and have never been issued a plastic pint glass when standing in the street to drink it.
