Oil temp gauge

The most important thing in my mind is the location of the sensor. Originally I had it in the sump, off to one side (Canton racing thing with trap doors etc.). That was not the best location. I have since moved it to a tapping on my remote oil filter and it now gives instantaneous temperature (ie rev it and you see a rise immediately, before it lagged behind). If you have not got a remote filter housing just make sure it is in the flow. I think it should also go before the cooler for sure, you want to know what the engine is doing, a bit like with coolant temperature. I think Stig put his in the extension part of the oil take-off plate.
I have had an oil temp sender in 3 different positions -
1. In Mocal oil temp sender adapter plumbed in line to cooler - did not work here at all, seldom got needle off stop. Maybe something wrong with my setup, but certainly no use.
2. Tapped into the filter take off extension so got sender into oil stream above filter - this worked fine, oil temp reacts as you would expect.
3. After changing to remote filter, tapped into remote filter housing. This also works well.
