Question for tyre fitters

Hi

I just had 2 new tyres fitted at home by a mobile tyre fitters. I took the wheels off for them in advance. I expected the valves to have been changed, but the dirty old valves are still in situ. Should they be changed with every new tyre? I've checked the receipt but it doesn't show a breakdown. He's done a seemingly good job, no scratches on the rims and he pulled off the old wheel weights before adding new ones when balancing.

I only change the valves if the rubber is cracked or perished. Incidentally I’m not sure how or whether you change them on cars with tyre pressure warning systems (which are built into the valve).

years ago it was the norm.

Not always the case now. But to a degree they are a perishable item and are so cheap, it's a little pointless not replacing them

If they are rubber we change them, if they are the TPMS metal valves then no.

My motorbike has metal valves which I assume never need changing. I used to replace the rubber ones every three or so tyre changes.
