Let's say my friend takes very potent legal drugs to live due to medical condition. He then takes other legal prescription drugs to counter the side effects.

So he decides to buy a class b herb to help live with this and allow pain relief and side effect relief as well.

If the police arrested him and he choose to go to mags, would he really receive a sentence, fine or suchlike?

Is it his first offence? How much has he been caught with, a couple of grams or a couple of kilos?

You'd have to be trying pretty hard to get a conviction for cannabis.

Why not just take the drugs prescribed to him?

Because some drugs have pretty horrible side effects, which can be countered with cannabis.

As most people taking certain illegal drugs claim it is for pain relief. Then I doubt it will have much sway with a magistrate.

They could always try talking to a pain relief consultant.

Pain, in this case MH caused by the medication itself.

''This medicine may cause some people to be agitated, irritable, or display other abnormal behaviors, such as feeling sad or hopeless, getting upset easily, or feeling nervous or hostile. It may also cause some people to have suicidal thoughts and tendencies or to become more depressed.''

i think unless you have been on very heavy medication, stuff that is changing your actual biology. can't really understand.

Medical cannabis is available in the UK. Over 17,000 patients use it now. If his GP won't prescribe for any reason he can try for a private prescription following an on-line consultation. There are several such private practices, for example www.sapphireclinics.com

Chances of him being arrested must be next to zero.

So what do you want people to say? You asked for opinions I gave one. Did not say if it was right or wrong.
I even suggested you talk to pain consultant.

Who, in several cases (personal experience) recommend cannabis, to the point where medical THC loaded cannabis is now permissible in the U.K. in (admittedly rare) circumstances.

I know someone who uses da herb in preference to the morphine prescribed to him. That he has to break the law do so is nothing short of scandalous - aside from being less effective at pain relief, the morphine would quite literally kill him over a period of years were he to use it.

My mate took some RSO, and the first time in a long while actually felt chilled out, probably 8 years since has been able to.

Aye the obsession with opiate based pain relief over much safer cannabinoids is ridiculous.

OP unless your mate is smoking a bong in a park I wouldn’t worry about police attention. If they use edibles no one would ever know and they’re much easier to dose.

side effects of the side effects. it goes on.

hypothetically..
So one drug solves one problem, auto immune system suppression, which works but causes massive depression and other things.

So you get prescribed anti-depressants, that now have side effects so no sleeping, impotence, feeling massively disconnected. etc

So you get another drug for these side effects,

The whole drug thing is a complex one. Whilst there is a lot of people saying Cannabis works for me or this herbal medicine works. What there isn't is much in the way of clinical trials.

Cannabis is currently illegal in this country (unless issued under a prescription) and whilst a small amount on one occasion may lead to a caution after that it will likely be a court case. That is a fact. As has been said the chances of actually being stopped are small, but don't let anyone pretend the police and the courts will do nothing, no matter what you tell them.
