Good find Sir!....I have always loved the movie, but found some scenes to be rather puzzling.
I named my home computer HAL9000 to differentiate it from my roommates on our little network (yes I feel my computer is trying to kill me at times
) and I've got it set up with Douglas Rain's voice on WAV files so HAL talks to me when I log on, log off, an error occurs,Etc.....Guess I've got too much time on my hands.......Again great find!

I saw the movie on its original release back in 1969 and was fairly stumped by what it was supposed to be about.I discovered the book around 1972 and, once read, everything seemed much clearer.
The movie was re-released in 1979 and, of course, I went to see it again at that point, This time it seemed to make much more sense.

A friend of mine did exactly that, spooky red eye wallpaper and all. It was especially scary, as the friend in question was called Dave.

Its pretty easy to understand, but a good little flash for fans... as I said, fans will like it, non-fans will find it utterly boring!!

That movie seems to focus on the man and tools too much, and not *why* the monolith's are even there...
I guess the book is an essential read as always with such things... the later books seem to go more into why the monoliths are there, especially post 2010 book... never read the first one though, bit silly of me

Oh, and although the monoliths are there, seemingly to 'entice' the Humans to the outer reaches of the Solar System, thus making them evolve, or progress, or whatever, the bit between the Moon, and Jupiter, was just an interaction between technoogy, and humans, (unless the monolith had some doing there, but there is no indication of this).
The Monoliths in the book and movie require little explanation. I thought the wee flash program did quite well.. Missed a few bits out, about HALS contradictory orders, etc, but was pretty much on the line.

2001 is of course, the greatest film of all time. Not a lot of people know that, but its been proved by research.
