F30 2015 330d randomly applying the brake of its own accord

Strange intermittent problem
Driving along motorway in the rain at steady speed not on cruise control and the car suddenly applies the brakes quite hard.
It’s done this 4 times now eg driving along M40 70 mph raining for no reason suddenly brakes hard.
This car does not have adaptive cruise.
Was not on cruise control at the time.
Local garage had a quick look and has no idea.
Booked in Local BM specialist but they are busy till early October.

Reluctant to use it again on the motorway last time it did this was a miracle the car behind avoided me as was a big hard brake went from 70 to probably 30/40 in an instant.

Was not close to any car in front at the time was just driving along normally keeping a safe distance to other traffic .

Any ideas what could cause this?
Was not the driver the car brakes of its own accord very scary thing on the motorway .

The do have a brake drying feature when it rains I believe, if it's only happening when it's raining that might be the issue if it's not working properly, it's part of the DSC system so maybe get that checked for error codes.

Sounds an unnerving thing to happen.

Thanks had never heard of brake drying before this makes sense as only doing it in the rain with auto wipers on it might be a safer feature when new but it’s dangerous when it does not work properly !
