Well, this was the first time I used the D50 in anger, and I have to say I was so impressed with it.

Far superior to the old compact I had previously, and I have to say - by far the best investment I've made recently.

In total, I took 562 pics (hi-res JPEGs), and were a combination of simple 'auto-mode' (point and shoot) and playing with the settings, etc ...

Anyhow, I narrowed down the pics to 22 that I'm extremely delighted with, for differing reasons. Of those - my absolute faves are #4 and 16.

These pics are 100% undoctored, except for resizing for web-friendliness. Please do note that some shots are out of focus - but I still like them.

And can I take this opportunity to thank you all for your help and support - it is so appreciated clap

K

I shall be different and go for number 20.

You've got the focus pretty well sorted, next thing is to consider composition and where the light's coming from.

For 20, I would want to pump up the contrast a bit, and clone out the two "SAGA sightseers" on the left.

I like the butterflies too.

The house looks somewhat different without 60,000 people and the driveway being used as an airstrip as it was on Sunday!

Interesting comments - thanks all.

I have to confess that the whole exercise was thoroughly worthwhile personally, as I got some cracking personal shots that I'm so chuffed with, of Mrs. Kinky and Kinky junior - defo for the family album.

As for the Stonehenge one - that was taken whilst driving past at 45mph - I can't believe we got a decent shot and with a fence in the way too!

As for the focus - one of the things I played with was taking a load of continuous shots and manually adjusting the focus on each one - hence loads were slightly off focus - but of the 10+ shots of each subject - probably 1 was good!

I'm starting to enjoy this now!!!!

This weekend will be a real test, at Silverstone - high speed subjects zipping past.

I'm going to be really different and go for 12, although I like a few more. Very narrow DOF, I think it's a great shot. Hope you don't mind, but I've fiddled with it:

Can't decide if I prefer the deep green of the grass, or this, as the dog 'pops' out more.

It's defo a learning curve. My first experience with the D70 was disappointing, mostly on the exposure front, as I was used to a compact. It took a while to bounce back and figure out how to fly the thing properly - and IMHO PhotoShop is indispensible.

Have you tried AF-C (continuous servo mode)? It tracks a moving subject continuously (though is not perfect).

Suggest you set it to Shutter Priority and experiment with different shutter speeds until you get that nice pan effect. I can't tell you what speed to use as it depends on the lens you're using and the speed of the object.

But as you say: what fun
