2022 Audi A1 S-Line - Lane Assist AARRRGGGHHHH

Lane Assist is driving us all mad. Small A/B roads pulls us to verge, Dual/Motorway wants to intervene when moving back into inside lane without use of indicator. If driving with light hold on wheel, it sends out loud warning bong and message to take hold of wheel....

Is there anything that can be done to avoid this Nanny State intervention ?

It might be configured to default to "on" with every ignition cycle, but you can change this relatively easily with VCDS/OBDEleven/Carista/other VAG diagnostic tool.

It's the same on all modern cars I'm afraid. You get used to using the indicators even when not strictly needed just to avoid being shoved over.

Or go through the routine of getting in the car and turning off the assistance systems. Easier said than done in the modern VAG stable where everything is hidden behind a slow screen.

My A6 has a little button to turn it off on the indicator stalk.

Although I suspect it won't be long before even the cheapest shopping car will have all that bks.

Take it to a independent and get them to turn it off via VCDS, otherwise it'll only come back on again when you get in next time. I doubt a dealer would do it for you.

Agree - feel its almost pointless going to the dealer and no "stalk" option like other Audis. Spoils an otherwise enjoyable car to drive....

I’ve put the start stop off onto the quick access menu but the lane assist is buried deep in the options and you can’t create a shortcut

Is there no driver assist button on the steering wheel?

You really need someone with the right tool to switch it to "remember last setting". Takes a couple of minutes if you know what you're doing.

The Lane Assist logo is there, on the end of the indicators stalk, but hidden from my view with the reach and rake I have set on the steering wheel, for my preferred driving style.

I'm driving on the motorway and spot the little < car > logo and feel the end of the stalk - hey presto, the lane assist symbol on the dash goes off !

Much nicer to drive. 500+ miles in 3 days and the car is much more enjoyable. Nice grip from the 215/45-17 Vredesteins, especially in the wet, plus a bonus 48MPG (not hanging around)...

It will default to being back on once the ignition has been cycled. Although I'm sure you're already aware of that.
Not sure about new A1, but new A3 you have to press and hold the button for over 3 seconds, where as the previous version you could just tap/press once on it.

Indeed Dan - defaults to on, but it is just a tap, rather than hold for 3s. Much happier now.
