Air Filter

Sorry for the naff post but the search isnt working this morning.

My air filter behind the front grille is all greasy. Im assuming this isnt helping the intake any. Car never really over heats but want to replace anyway.

What kind of replacement is recommended? Standard? Looked in Halfrauds yesterday at some of the fancy conicle/colourful ones. They any good?

Hi mate. Just take it off and wash it in hot soapy water. Give it a good rinse and dry it. Re oil it if you want as this helps to filter the air or you can simply leave it dry.

The originals are by Pipercross (i think) so are already pretty good. I have just bought a replacement form my local dealer (HHC) and was not offended by the price.

As an alternative, ACT do a full induction upgrade which includes new silicone smooth-bore tubes, and a new K&N filter. Give them a call, i've just bought some de-catted manifolds from them and the service was spot-on.

I've had the ACT induction kit fitted and the difference is noticable. Throttle response is livlier and the engine's much keener to rev.

I don't think it's any faster, but it feels better. I think Corin described it as giving his Chim 'a shot of Redbull', which I think is a pretty good analogy

Mine is all greasy too, but I think its suppossed to be like that!!!
I think it is an unbranded Pipercross filter, as someone else has already said.

I wouldn't change for some fancy thing from Halfwits tho 'cause the filter that is on there is already a performance filter so you'd be better going for a known upgrade (ie from ACT) or just buying a new Pipercross IMHO

I might try to give it a bit of a scrub then lube it up a bit coz the grease is really caked on around the front (road grime I assume).

Happy to leave as is at the moment though. Had an induction kit thingy on my old 2L Escort and didnt really make a hoooge difference so cant see it doing alot here.

PS - Speaking of Air... and Filters etc, Should I be able to hear a sucking sound from around/under the plenum? Its not too bad but noticeable. Am I being paranoid. Will a fault code reader be able to tell me specifically whats wrong (if anything). Ta

Hard to tell without hearing it, but you are probably hearing the noise of the air going past the throttle butterfly - this is normal.

Pay a visit to your local motorbike shop - they'll sell you a tin of foam filter oil.
Clean you old filter with white spirit, let it dry, then stick it in a carrier bag with a little of the oil, and squeeze it to absorb the oil, let it drain...refit !

The ACT kit has made a noticeable difference to a lot of owners cars, but it can be a bit fiddly to fit. Nothing tricky mechanically, just need extra hands.
