Buy a TVR - The're more reliable than a VW

Right lets just put this whole thing in perspective.

Late last year the missus and I bought 2 cars 1 was a Brand spanking VW Golf (new shape) TDI and the other is my much loved TVR

VW - Times back to garage with faults 4
TVR - Times back with faults 1

VW - Breakdowns 1
TVR - Breakdowns 0

VW - Near suicide from boredom of driving it - Every journey in it
TVR - Near suicide from boredom of driving it - 0

VW - Comments that's a nice car - 0
TVR - Comments that's a nice car - Lots

Result
TVR - Great
VW - Loses by a country mile

So a little different but not massive

Had a Lancia Delta Integrale once also that was the biggest pile of poo ever to be made if you could call it made, more like thrown together by monkeys, wouldn't start if it was even slightly cold outside and broke down more times than the mother of the bride.

On a side note best car I've ever driven when it was going.

OK, ‘cos it’s Friday and I can’t be bothered to do any work, here goes:

Wife's Merc CLK Conv (May 04, 3,000miles) –v- My Tam (June 04, 3,000miles)

Merc - Times back to garage with faults 0 (some niggles fixed at first service, loads more niggles keep popping up)
TVR - Times back with faults 0 (some niggles fixed at first service, none since)

Merc - Breakdowns 0
TVR - Breakdowns 0 (but flat battery once)

Merc – Drive – smooth, solid and comfy, bit boring
TVR - Drive – WAAAAYYYY HAAAAYYYYYY!!!!!!

Merc – Brown pants moments – NONE
TVR - Brown pants moments – a couple (once by putting my foot down in the wet! Silly boy!!!)

Merc - Comments that's a nice car – none (a few looks)
TVR - Comments that's a nice car – billions and billions and billions (ok, quite a lot)

Merc - Pain in the arse factor - NONE
TVR - Pain in the arse factor - checking water and oil regularly, warming it up properly and not using it for short journeys – ‘nuff said!

Merc - Wife’s happiness – lots and lots
TVR – Wife’s happiness – Oh dear!

Merc – Sales and customer service – shite, arrogant and self-important (particularly sales)
TVR – Sales and customer service – excellent (Henley Heritage and TVR Centre Barnet)

Merc – costs – less than you would think
TVR – costs – a whole heap more than you would hope!

Merc -Depreciation from new - average
TVR - Depreciation from new - Oops!!!

Result
Merc – not bad if you like that sort of thing
TVR - Wonderful, brilliant, breathtaking

Forgot to add:
Merc - Roof down - simple, smooth, quick, automatic
TVR - Roof down - a task for a lumberjack and a precision engineering team!

No MOT failures
LOTS OF SMILES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3 quarter mile sprints

well ive owned my VW less than a week and its playing up, not enough fuel going to it, probably a blockage in the fuel line or something but a pain anyway,i think though what has to be said is that VW make more cars than TVR but TVRs reliability issues are sometimes founded-sometimes unfounded,but i think thier reputation is worse than non owners(usually bland Porsche owners that are jelous because they didnt get a car with any charecter,style or balls) make out they are,if you want an example of a truly unreliable car Range Rover anyone?

I've had 3 Range Rovers and two Discoveries (pick the second one up in a couple of hours) over the course of 15 years or so. Breakdowns; 2, neither serious. I've had my Chimaera 3 years. Breakdowns; Nil. OTOH, wife's Peugeot 205 GTi Auto (aka a "Gentry" had a cold starting problem that took the renewal of virtually all the injection and ignition systems by three different garages to fix. And as for the Porsche 924 Turbo I had a few years ago; *what* a piece of shit. Hideously unreliable and vastly expensive to fix.

my friend had a P38 4.6 HSE for a year and it caused him no end of problems it was forever in the workshop, air suspension or radiator there was always something, i guess it was a friday afternoon car but since then hes switched to a P60 Range Rover and its been trouble free hopefully they might have sorted them out, you getting the new Disco?

i know there are obviously exceptions to the rule(RUF conversions etc.....) but on the whole i just find Porsches bland, im not knocking them as i know thier a good car but personally they just fail to excite me.
