I have to say I'm aware of the changes regarding priority for pedestrians and cyclists but I have not gone off to re read the Highway Code so that fact the majority of drivers out there aren't even aware of the changes is not a massive surprise!

I’d be surprised if most drivers have not accessed the HC since the day they passed their test.

So I’d question the figure of 61%.

That's why I questioned the concern a few weeks/months ago on PH. For most people it won't make any difference to anything. Though it might make a bit of a difference for today's learner drivers and other young people who will just regard it all as the norm.

The people who came up with them clearly never really give them any proper thought so I don’t really see why I should either.

So much for the green cross code these days.

The funny thing is that if you ask a driver from this 61% if they expected the pilot on their next flight, the captain on their next ferry, the next sparky or gas fitter in their home or their next medical professional they need to be fully aware of the rules, the answer would be a resounding “yes!”

But these drivers? “”Nah, read it when I passed my test 25 years ago, mate…”

Ah but those professionals are forced to regularly retest and prove they’ve sat through CPD.
Drivers? Nothing.
