2009 Citroen C5, (non hydraulic suspension).

It’s my Wife’s snotter, but she really likes the car. It’s quite tidy and was cheap.

The steering rack started to leak badly, as they do on these. Upon replacing the rack, an aluminium pipe, with steel fittings, into the steel rack just fell apart.

Citroen don’t make the part anymore, (part no: 4012P5), and neither do any aftermarket suppliers.

Two questions;

1; Any recommendations as to who could make me a replacement pipe and fittings, (including estimated costs)?

2; As this is a ‘low pressure’ pipe, does it really need to be aluminium, or would a silicone or stainless steel braided hose do the job just as well?

I’ve spent the last few days searching high and low all over the internet, made dozens of phone calls to all sorts of Peugeot / Citroen specialists, and drawn a blank at every turn.

Many thanks in advance smile

Most places seem to be calling that a low pressure air-conditioning pipe? Is that just bad internet part numbering?

If it's low pressure (or frankly, even if high pressure) you could almost definitely make up some lines yourself, I made both lines on my Monaro, they haven't leaked yet! (1100 miles hehe)

Can you get a decent picture of what the fitting should look like? It's probably an M16x1.5 o-ring fitting as a total guess, like this:

That has an AN fitting on the other side, so could make up an AN hose to run to the PS pump, then just need an appropriate fitting for that.

Thanks Sturdy

As I’ve been busy with work, I sought the services of a local mobile mechanic to change the rack.

I’m still waiting to hear back from him as to what he’s done with the old PAS pipe, so I’ve currently no idea what it looks like, besides what I’ve seen on a parts diagram.

I too have seen that part number listed as an air-con pipe, (as well as a pas pipe). According to two different main dealer sources the part number is correct. Maybe the same pipe was also used in a different location of the vehicle as an air-con pipe as well?

If you can't make one up yourself then any of the hydraulic hose repair franchises (Pirtek etc) out there should easily be able to come up with something to do the job.
