Fiesta ST Unexpected purchase
Discussion
Went shopping for a C63 bought a Fiesta ST !
Coming from a V90 smoker barge it’s a fair bit smaller but I wanted to downsize, I’m sure that downsizing this much is going to bite me on the backside at some point but I wasn’t thinking, the fun factor took over and before I knew it I’m driving it home.
So the car, ST3 B&O sound, performance pack, it’s a nutty little thing, I haven’t had a hot car since my Polestar a few years back before my V90, and on a tight twisty road even with almost double the power and 4wd the Polestar wouldn’t see what way I went.
It’s surprising how much torque there is from a 3cyl 1.5 engine, it picks up and just goes, changes direction like a fly, and stops pretty well.
Recaros in all Fords are always fantastic, these are no different and it has all the kit you will ever practically need.
It’s just stupid levels of fun to drive, but but but, it did 40mpg on my commute this morning also so quite economical.
Couple of pics of the car

And a Polestar pic as I loved that car

Very cool, I love these.
I'm trying to persuade my Mrs out of our 2011 nissan leaf. It only does 4k a year and although it's essentially free it's like driving a tumble drier. Family car is a ford galaxy.
I want either one of these, or a BMW m135/140i
The fiesta sounds both much more fun, more exploitable and also cheaper to run. But those BMW's also look quite epic.

I’ve had a M135i, great car, but in terms of the fun factor, doesn’t even come close to this. While the power and torque of the //m lite are really appealing, it doesn’t have much fun factor.
I had mine for 2 years and 17k miles and while I enjoyed it, it was still a bit “white goods” like you say but with more power.

I am leaning toward the fiesta I think.
Just need to persuade the Mrs to ditch the milk float*.
- to be fair..as a cheap runabout they are the ultimate solution.....just a bit rubbish.

I got rid of a Mountune mk7 ST for a M235i, big mistake once the novelty of the engine had worn off. Didnt come close for fun.I had mine for 2 years and 17k miles and while I enjoyed it, it was still a bit “white goods” like you say but with more power.

Love the ST, hence why I have spent so much messing with it, LSD next week, then its done, honest.
Like the new ones as well, meant to be a step up in all areas.

Those fiestas look like a lot of fun. Like a modern, well equipped clio 182.
What are they like for space inside?
To be honest I’m not sure, coming from a V90 it feels like a smart car, took the kids to school and the wife to work this morning no dramas, big test tomorrow we have to go back into London to pick up some stuff from our flat to bring to the new house, the Volvo, well it was never something you would even think about, having enough space, now I’m mentally planning how I’m going to get what I need to get in the boot !What are they like for space inside?

Well played o/p nice car,Are you keeping it standard.
Keep it standard, I’m not usually into modding cars, it does everything really well aside from move houses, might have a look at some handling improvements as after a thrash on some backroads today when pressing on it was a bit skittish but suspect that’s probably due to the tyres, could do with changing as they are not far of the limit.Other than that, drive and enjoy it, I’ve done 300 miles today, included a wife kids 2 dogs boot full of gear from Essex / Cambs borders to central London and back, trip to Stansted Airport from home and back, and a thrash around the back roads, reset the trip and it averaged 37mpg.
The only thing I miss from the Volvos is radar cruise in medium to heavy motorway traffic that takes a lot of the pain of driving out of motorways in the south east of England.
Noice one OP! I'm on my 2nd and have done 35K+ miles between them. Mine sits around 37mpg fairly constantly and I agree with your thoughts on it. Oddly enough, we had an M135i for a while too and once you got passed the engine the Fiesta offers more of most (good) things more of the time.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Re the skittish handling,I appreciate you said you were not going down the modding route,But upgrading the rear motor mount and fitting a short shifter,For less than £200 makes a massive difference whe pressing on down a country road.Other than that, drive and enjoy it, I’ve done 300 miles today, included a wife kids 2 dogs boot full of gear from Essex / Cambs borders to central London and back, trip to Stansted Airport from home and back, and a thrash around the back roads, reset the trip and it averaged 37mpg.

If it’s more than undoing bolts and then putting bolts back in I quite simply don’t have the skill set for anything more than that
