A tin of Heinz Tomato Soup is now £1.65 at the Coop. Haven't they heard that inflation is only 10%?

On the plus side, they sell a pack of four cans for £3.50. Fine. But what idiot in middle management decided that he didn't want to sell any individual tins?

Co-op stores are hardly the cheapest…hence a loyalty card scheme? Even beer is more expensive than One Stop etc.

Try the Bramwell's Tomato soup from Aldi. It's just recently went upto 49p per tin and it's pretty good and that's coming from someone who would only entertain Heinz or Baxters soup since I was a kid.

I don't understand how Heinz are still in business. There isn't a single product they make that isn't inferior to much cheaper rival brands. It's a triumph of marketing over content.

Who knows what Heinz are playing at. Their beans have doubled in price. I've switched to Branstons and prefer them.

Every aspect of the production process - labour, energy, raw materials - is subject to price increases.

That said, I do think suppliers of tinned goods / supermarkets realise that people stockpile in uncertain times, and are price-gouging accordingly.

I agree, people will start to buy more food that isn't healthy anymore. I know soup contains quite a bit of salt but go to Sainsbury and a kilo of bananas is around a quid. A pack of custard creams is 20p.

It would literally cost you 35p to make it.

My wife came home from Aldi with Heinz tomato soup, and I protested about the extravagance. However she swiftly informed me it was the only tomato soup in stock, touche. This could be an ongoing problem.

£1.40 for 1 tin of Heinz Tomato at the large Tesco in Gateshead or 4 for £4. I have stopped buying it and buy only the Aldi Bramwells as mentioned above which is not bad at all. I still see folk buying the Heinz though and wonder how much the supermarkets can keep putting it up before people say enough is enough.

Only get the Bramwell brand, it's decent enough for the price.

Not just dubled in price, but dropped right off in quality. Branston, I agree, are far better.

I don't like soup of any kind, I'd rather eat my food than drink it!

It’s not exactly hard to make soup! Anyone moaning about the price of tinned soup is a mug - and a bit council!

I think it's a little unfair calling them council for complaining about the price.

As for making it, yes very simple.

I love making cheap soups using left over chicken bones and in season veg.

It doesn't take much preparation time and can be frozen for future use.

The public seem to be having the piss taken if tomato soup is the price mentioned here.

Why on earth buy Heinz, generally the most expensive?.

Why on earth use the Co-op (costly - just convenient?)

Just use Aldi, Lidl, Asda etc
