Good place to eat in St Ives/Carbis Bay
Discussion
Holiday next week and my birthday and I want to take our ex neighbours from Wadebridge out for a meal. I've never eaten in the area so looking for recommendations for a proper meal, not necessarily fine dining and certainly not tasting menu b
ks, but good food well done. Budget is not an issue but I'm not going to that fancy place at the Carbis Bay hotel as friends have said not to.

Was a brilliant meal in a lovely setting with excellent cocktails (and I don't usually like cocktails). Couldn't find menu on the link above but maybe worth giving them a ring!
If you're up for a short drive, you could go to The Gurnard's Head which is also very good, but maybe not special enough for your birthday depending on your vibe! http://www.gurnardshead.co.uk/
Otherwise tbh found most of the eateries round there to be tourist traps or just not very good!

Hello OP as a sometime resident you have come to the right place!
Gurnards Head is nice down at Zennor as above says, in a unfussy gastropubby way
Carbis Bay its self the Ugly butterfly is good, inconsistent to average but usually good, but pricey. having read your op again count it out!!
Porthminster beach cafe would get my vote for your needs. unstuffy, relaxed, bit pricey but consistently good food IME
Porthgwidden beach cafe used to be good but havent been in a year, very relaxed and more casual food.
Porthmeor beach cafe is good, more sharing plates really, not as good as it used to be though, but not bad
Portminster kitchen, is oft recommended, i dont like it personally.
If Wadebridge i would just take them to the Seafood or prawn on the lawn (farm) (if they like fish that is as they are 2 of the very best IMO, plus saves them a long drive!!)
couple would not recommend that you may be tempted by, st ives harbour hotel resturant, great view, ok food but not anything worth spending your money on and likewise tregonna castle restaurant.
no experience of the harbour view recommendation, but lots of tourist traps, but seriously just go porthminster beach cafe.
