As I understand it, the two pre-cats are inside the exhaust manifolds (the two four-into-one pipes). The main cat is within the Y-piece.
Having replaced my holed manifolds for new SS de-catted, I'm not convinced there's any noticable difference. Maybe the exhaust note is better, but then my Trev no longer sounds like a tractor!
Removing the main cat would probably fail your next MOT.

Looks like it, all the Lemans work and post Vmax work came in at 2k...
Be foolish to get rid of at least whilst the summers here, and one of the pre cats is blocked so they gotta come out anyway !!

One of my cats are blocked hence the need to remove...
Main cats will stay in and the car will be *ahem* well warmed up for the MOT !!
I've had the manifolds on and off mine a couple of times recently, and i would have thought you can remove the pre-cats without the need for a welder.
If you take off the manifolds, the pre-cats can be clearly seen from the Lamba sensor end. They're a brittle ceramic type material that should just break up using a hammer and chisel.
I would have thought that you would have to take them off the car to do this to ensure that no debris goes back down to the head.

No, and Nooooooooooooooooooooo, I'm at the point of sticking em all back on and getting my mechanic to bloody well do it, but i'll have another crack at it this evening, then thats it....

Take headers off and just bash them out!
Mind you I had mine cut out with and angle grinder and binned the whole system from head to tail pipe and just kept the pre cats. Ditch that Stupid main cat - would be easier, and keep the pre-cats for mot, bash of cat internal on the main cat - gas flow on these systems IS Crap what ever rout you take.
